Kids getting paid

I see some jealousy here. Surely it can’t be that offensive if it’s not your money. I’m personally on the fence about giving but not opposed to it. 110 has really saved our #### and given us a chance to have a special season. Would love to see one more Natty. So tell me…why you mad??

Stop the joke and let the football players get paid, and Clemson get its money, and the fans cheer for the team as a separate entity wholly owned by CU and providing everyone with what it is and not with the wink, wink, nod, nod that we are supporting student-athletes in amateur athletics.

You can say that...

1

Jan 4, 2025, 8:30 PM [ in reply to My sister who is a school teacher ]

and to a point you are correct.
However;
a) the Swift concert is a one time deal, IPTAY, then tickets, plus parking and travel and food etc... makes $2500 a year an absolute deal if you want to bring a family of 4 to Clemson games
b) remember the NIL is ON TOP of the IPTAY/tickets etc... so let's say you're already stretching to make $6k for tickets etc... for a family of four. Now they want a recurring 5k to pay the players? Tough sell, especially the way the economy has been recently.

Like the Green Bay Packers, who bragged about a '50 year waitlist' on season tickets when the economy bottomed out in '07/'08 they found that the list of people who could actually PAY was a LOT smaller.

Clemson isn't a big school and doesn't have limitless alumni. They cannot just simply continue asking for more because eventually the answer is 'No'.

No need to reconsider. If not for excessive amounts of money by those that love it so much that tbey aspire to have way more than what would ever be needed, then this issue would not be happening. What concerns me is the impact on the sport itself. We’re already seeing a significant disparity between the “haves” and “have-nots” due to differences in conference revenue from TV deals.

The SEC and Big Ten already hold a massive advantage over the ACC. Now, with athletes potentially receiving tens of millions, most schools simply won’t be able to compete financially. By “most,” I include even programs like Clemson, which lack the resources to match wealthier institutions.

This trajectory isn’t sustainable if the goal is to preserve any semblance of parity in college sports.
