Last year most of us on Tnet assumed HJ (a 5 star) would over take KB. Obviously with his limited down field passing KB get beat out by the young phenom. However, as we saw in the Syracuse game, HJ was NOT better than KB. The coaches were doing their job and playing the guy who gave us the best chance to win. Fast forward to the Sugar Bowl(I was there) KB was ineffective against a defense who had the horsepower to load the box on us and make him hit midrange and deep balls under pressure. Under pressure is the key. IMHO we lost that game on the offensive line.
Now look at this year. There is no shortage of QB analysis and statistics stating TL is a more effective QB than KB. 9:2 TD ratio/more yds per play/more pts per drive/etc. Again, we all thought TL would overtake KB at some point this season but the coaches were doing their job and playing the guy who gave us the best chance to win. In 2018 that meant KB starting with TL getting significant snaps early in the season to ease him in and get some experience before starting ths week. The best thing that can happen this year is we win the Natty. Quality defenses in the playoff would stack the box on KB and I dont like our chances in that scenario. Those same quality Ds cant stack the box on TL. That fact opens up both the passing and running game for us in the playoff and our OL needs all the help it can get in those games.
I wish KB the best but he did us a favor. TL can now take 80-90% of the snaps in practice and use the games in OCT and NOV to prepare for what we all hope is a successful playoff run. That increse in practice time will pay dividends in the post season. The only way this is bad for the CU football teams chances in the post season is if TL gets hurt. Heres to TLs health!
