Thought he might get pt with Spector and Skalski gone. No year sitting out for transfers starting next season is huge. This will def be even more the norm going forward.

Patterson was an ESECPN top 300 @ 259, and he was a 4 star guy coming into Clemson, just wondering why no more playing time.

To be fair, he played quite a bit, actually.
But also consider specifically who he was competing for at the position, notably guys like James Skalski.
Happy for Kane & his future at Vanderbilt and beyond.

Kane's not transferring for more playing time; he's literally going to Vanderbilt and gets a full scholarship for only participating his final season, and in a program Clemson simply doesn't offer.
Kane waited his time. He played plenty, waited until his final year, and by all accounts he did this RIGHT and for his best future while keeping Clemson right. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if our coaches helped him make this choice the way he did.
I don't know why the TigerNet article above has so little information outright, but maybe it's to trigger fans to say many of the things that are here because it creates engagement.
Bottom line, he decommitted from Ohio State & then committed to Clemson without an official visit.
I'm thankful for Kane & his time here, how he handled this transfer to live his dream the right way, & I hope more of us can remember that. Just a thought.

Sounds like he did it the right way. If he gets to go to Vandy in his home state and get a degree that we don't offer. Appreciate the time he was here and happy for him. He did a good job last year in a game when Skalski and Venables were out.

Your story is right with one exception. He didn't play plenty of time. I hardly consider 200 snaps in 25 games as playing a lot. Most of those were 4th qtr mop duty.
That said, glad he committed. He fulfilled his requirements and the schools obligations. But the threads were nuts when he committed. He was the next Luke kueckly(sp). Wish him nothing but the best.

That makes sense, good to see he’s putting his educational needs ahead of Football! It is a shame Clemson doesn’t offer Master Programs for most of its degree fields. Educational funding at its best once again failing to honorably meet the needs and criteria for students to succeed.

I agree the portal sucks. Why have scholarships if they get to run if not good enough to start. Its like Coaches that sign contracts but then run before contracts is over. When Coach leaves early he should have to pay school cost still on contract specially since if they get fired schools still pay at least part of remaining.

They have employment contracts. When negotiated they will have clauses with payments to the coach if the contract is not completed, and often payments to the school if the coach moves on to another school.
College football players are not employees (which is something the NCAA is ACTIVELY fighting for them no to be considered because it would raise a whole host of financial liabilities for programs). You can't then treat them as employees with contracts and try to limit their ability to move on as they see fit.

I wish more of us could be happy for him instead of misjudging him, even in spite of the missing info in the article we're responding to. I'm happy for him.
He's going to Vanderbilt to finish his career & get a full ride at a great school in a program Clemson University doesn't offer. To have waited this long to do it, his final year (and while spiting Ohio State in the first place) suggests a deliberate plan all along rather than a knee-jerk reaction to wanting more playing time (also in spite of the playing time & activity he contributed to Clemson outright).

I believe he can return to Clemson if he chooses. He could use a year as a starter to get himself into good NFL position.
He might get a shot this year, but he should come back if he can.

He stuck it out here & performed well & played plenty. I'm happy for him, & Clemson's future is still plenty bright & this is a moment to celebrate for both sides even in spite of the missing info in the article above.
