We've been telling people this since January. Some Big 12 contacts have been confirming this to me for months. People laughed in January, now peoples ears are perked up. The ACC isn't going to have a seat at the table after June's BCS meeting.

2

May 8, 2012, 6:10 PM [ in reply to Re: just remember you heard it here first...*** ]

Why on earth do you want to stay in this weak a@@ conference. If we want to be big time in football then this is the move to make. The big 12 adding us,fsu and wv could give the sec a run. If we want to play big boy football we have to leave this high school league.

Trade UNC and Duke for Texas?

1

May 2, 2012, 9:25 AM

Still not sure about that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm not sure about that, either...

1

May 2, 2012, 10:16 AM

The grass on the other side is always greener, but maybe that's where the dogs are shi++ing. Texas may be (and probably is) worse than anything we have in the ACC. Moving to the Big XII could be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. Maybe it would work out, but I'm not so gung ho about it as some people. The Big XII will always be unstable as long as UT is there, and UT runs that conference. Just my opinion.

I can see us going. We could go to the Baylor regional.

1

May 2, 2012, 9:47 AM

There's a reason that schools like Nebraska and A&M wanted out.

I hate dealing with UNCheat and Dook in basketball and the questionable officiating. But in bball, everyone still gets a fair shake if/when they make the NCAA Tournament. In football, we don't really have to worry about those clowns.

If we went to the B12, we would have to deal with Texas. That's a force that no other school wants to deal with because of the influence they have on their conference. As much as I hate the ACC, I'd rather stay for now. However, if the BCS ever has an extended football playoff (more than just 4 teams), then I'd reconsider.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Why would we trade what we dislike for Texas - OK/OkState

1

May 8, 2012, 6:10 PM

No one seems to be able to address that issue...if teams from the big 12 have jumped ship, what makes us think its such a sweet deal. The ONLY reason we should consider the move is if the ACC stays mediocre in the football aspect and we move to playoff, I don't want us to be left behind.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed, but most of this is frustration & internet paranoia

1

May 8, 2012, 6:17 PM

I don't think a major conference with FSU, Clemson, Miami, & VT is ever going to get left behind.

Nor one that has UNC / Duke in basketball.

Think about it.

Re: Agreed, but most of this is frustration & internet paranoia

When you posted those names and I looked at them all aligned I think to myself "how in the heck have we come to this point?" Schools in the ACC still have a chance and as much as it pains me, I pull for Clemson first but for the sake of our future I just want one d@mn team in the ACC to win a NC!!

Baylor/Ok St./Iowa St./Kansas/K-State have never been good at football. They are having a good run now, but what happens when they come back down to earth?

The Big XII is in no way head and shoulders above the ACC like some here believe. The ACC's problem is that it has not had the top level NC contender over the past 10 or so years.

Re: Anyway the point is

1

May 8, 2012, 8:57 PM [ in reply to Anyway the point is ]

Yeap...The ACC has to have a NC championship soon to survive falling further into conference obscurity.

Call me old fashioned (even though I'm not old) I think the teams in the ACC still have great tradition and history. The foundation for a rise once again IS there. A NC or good bowl showing vs. SEC, Big 10 or 12 would do a lot for our image.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Anyway the point is

1

May 8, 2012, 9:34 PM

I think that the thing is, the ACC did not get in this shape overnight and it will take some time to fix it. The national media seems to fall in love with FSU every year, it would help if the Noles have a great year. To me it will take us and the Noles winning some big games. We can start with AU and we have to avoid the 2-3 bad games that we seem to have every year. We need to regain the fear factor by spanking the Coots in our house and winning a BCS bowl.
