since 1911. In all those years, there have only been 33 DAYS that we have awakened to a new day with an NCAA Tournament win (or wins) under our belt, still alive and still in the Dance. They are:

1980: Coach-Bill Foster: The Tigers defeated Utah State (1st round) on March 6th, No. 12 Brigham Young on March 8th (2nd round), Lamar on March 12 (Sweet Sixteen), before finally losing on March 15 to UCLA 85-74 (Elite Eight). Nine glorious days of hope following a Tournament win.

1987: Coach-Cliff Ellis, we lost in the 1st round to Southwest Missouri State, NO days of joy.

1989: Coach-Cliff Ellis: The Tigers defeated No, 22 St. Mary's on March 16 (1st round), before bowing out to No. 1 Arizona (2nd round) 94-68 on March 18. Two days of joy where we woke up still alive.

1990: Coach-Cliff Ellis: The Tigers defeated Brigham Young (1st round) on March 15, defeated No. 12 La Salle (2nd round) on March 17, before being ROBBED by No. 3 UConn and Tate Effing George (Sweet Sixteen) on March 22. 71-70. Seven days of joy. **These games were later vacated due to infractions.**

1996: Coach-Rick Barnes: The Tigers lost to Georgia in the 1st round of the Tournament, NO days of joy.

1997: Coach-Rick Barnes: The Tigers defeated Miami (Ohio)(1st round) on March 14, defeated Tulsa (2nd round) on March 16, before falling in a heartbreaker in Double OT 90-84 to No. 3 Minnesota (Sweet Sixteen) on March 20. Six days of joy.

1998: Coach-Rick Barnes: The Tigers lost to Western Michigan (1st round) of the Tournament, no days of joy. This was Rick Barnes last year at Clemson. He remains the ONLY coach to take Clemson to postseason every year of his tenure. (1 NIT plus 3 straight NCAA's)

2008, 2009, 2010: Coach-Oliver Purnell: Coach Purnell got the Tigers into the Dance three straight years, but we lost in the 1st round each and every time, no days of joy.

2011: Coach-Brad Brownell: The Tigers once again lost in the 1st round of the Tournament, no days of joy.

2018: Coach-Brad Brownell: The Tigers defeated New Mexico State (1st round) on March 16, defeated No. 19 Auburn (2nd round), before falling to No.4 Kansas 80-76 on March 23 (Sweet Sixteen). Seven days of joy.

2021: Coach-Brad Brownell: The Tigers lost in the 1st round of the Tournament, no days of joy.

2024: Coach-Brad Brownell: The Tigers defeated New Mexico (1st round) on March 22, there will be at least two days of joy before we play Sunday night.

Thanks for the history that just really says Coach Brownell has coached our team to 9 (so far) of the 33 days of joy in our history. Sounds pretty dadgum good to me.

By way of comparison, Dusty May, Florida Atlantic's HC, spent 14 days, from March 17th 2023 to April 1st 2023 basking in NCAAT tournament wins, before losing in the Final 4.

In 2011 he did win a 1st round First Four game of NCAAT over UAB. The second round games are 32 games.

Technically we had almost 9 years of joy and the exclusive claim to being undefeated in the NCAA Tournament from sometime in 1980 until we lost in 1989 as UCLA's win in 1980 being vacated!

Using the 1911 reference is a little misleading. The point you are trying to make doesn’t hold validity, there hasn’t been an NCAA tournament with 64, oh wait, 68 teams since 1911. When I was in school at Clemson the only way you made the tournament was to win the conference.

had just as much MATHEMATICAL chance to win our way into the Tourney as any other ACC team during those times you mentioned. And, back in those days, the ONLY ones who got in were conference tournament winners, that was not confined just to the ACC. Just ask the Coots, who sat home with a 25-3 record after being upset in the finals of the ACC tournament in 1970, after going undefeated in the ACC during the regular season.

This is incorrect.

In 2011, CBB's team defeated UAB in the "First Four", technically an NCAAT win on 03/15/2011, but then went on to lose to West Viriginia in the Round of 64 on 3/17/2011.
