Looks like if passed won't go into effect until the next season of academic year. Makes sense since fall sports athletes were not ready this season. Link:

Just make them all employees. Sign a contract and keep them as long as contract states. The whole thing ( college athletics) has gone to crap. It all started because of mankind’s inherent greed. MONEY.

How would this case have any impact on JZ or Schieff? Both have played their 4 full seasons of NCAA basketball. The relevant issue in this case appears to be how the NCAA treats juco seasons - not the NCAA’s right to have restrictions on number of seasons played. Elad has only played three NCAA seasons. Elad is arguing that the NCAA should have no say over his juco season. In which case 25-26 would be his 4th season played in 5 seasons disregarding the Covid season. I think the argument fails because he enrolled in the NCAA institution first where the rules were known. If he had started at junior college it would be a more compelling argument. But granting a “5th year” is outside the scope of this lawsuit, at least by what I’ve found to read.

I have read elsewhere that the NCAA was considering adding a blanket 5th year of eligibility. But divisions have been created between advocates of 6 to play 5, 5 to play 5, or making the 5th year only available to athletes at their original school. That passing in the spring meeting appears to be dead in the water. I thought this was the basis JZ thought he could possibly return.
