You should have told 'flow'... He argued on BLS's behalf for almost a year.***

Eventually, Trump/Musk will corrupt the BLS and the FED as well...

It's coming.
The BLS does a great job of summarizing key statistics. They provide timely estimates, and they transparently true-up previous estimates, too.
Don't expect whatever's left after Trump 2.0 to be even remotely the same.
If the BLS is MAGA-fied, we can survive that, because there are private entities that can do similar estimates.
But we can't survive if the FED is also corrupted by Trump. The last President who tried to strong-arm the FED was Nixon, and it created the inflation we saw in the 70's. We'll get a repeat of that in the 2020's, probably from the tariffs and harassment/persecution of immigrants. It's even more of a certainty if Trump polluts the FED.

Wasn't the mid 70's double digit inflation caused by OPEC's stranglehold

Maybe Wal-Mart or Target, or Costco? But really, it does need to be done by someone not $36T in debt without AS vested an interest in the numbers. I'm afraid what will happen is Trump will just come in and make it to his liking, and that's the worst thing that could happen.

Agreed that BLS represents a different type of problem than DoE EPA DoD etc

BLS problem is either incompetence, corruption, or a blend of both.
I don’t see BLS as an organization fraught with wasteful spending. Sure, they might be overpaying for IT subcontractors, but that is peanuts stuff.
DOGE, to my understanding, is more about restoring efficiency and rooting out wasteful spending than it is about competency. Or even about corruption I.e., doctoring BLS and CPI figures to aid the political party’s personalities of their preference.
BLS desperately needs attention, but not DOGE style.

Their numbers are not THAT far off, but they definitely lean at times.

I'm scared Trump comes in, inflation jacks up to 5-6-8%, and BLS says CPI up 3.5%. Like now, inflation is legit down. Not "normal", in the contemporary sense. Normal though over the last century. The problem is inflation doesn't REVERSE. So the 20% we went UP, won't come back down, that's just baked in now to everything. So yeah, NOW inflation is 3% or whatever, but that doesn't erase the 20% it rose over 3-4 years. People don't understand this, nor think this way.
Like the SC gas tax. We were WAY below NC and GA for 20 YEARS in gas taxes. Our roads went to crap. Legislature raised the tax to match GA and NC. They told SC voters that will make our roads as good as NC and GA roads. THIS IS FLAT OUT WRONG. We spent 20 years in decline while their roads improved. We match their tax, and that only stops the rate of DECLINE relative to NC and GA. It doesn't mean our roads will get as good as their roads, only not decline any WORSE than we have now.

(1) how in the heck do you know that and can prove it?
(2) an index/measure is just that...as long as the measure is consistent in its methodology, it paints a picture of how things are changing/have changed. In other words, the unemployment figure gives a picture of how the job market is changing. And it also isn't meant to be viewed in a vacuum...viewing the unemployment number without also looking at the labor force participation rate and a few others doesn't tell the whole story.
But folks that think like you like do dismiss it because you don't think it's "accurate"...but you can't say what "accurate" is and you don't understand the concept of the measure to begin with. And then in the next breath, you'll quote how unemployment and inflation was so low when your guy was in office...using the EXACT SAME FIGURES.

About. Do you think musk is gonna influence the bureau of labor statistics? He’d have to understand what they do first.
