What are their schools doing about students using AI? Is it the wild west? Is it treated like cheating/plagerism? Is it somewhere in the middle?

And if you feel comfortable enough doxxing yourself, what school do they go to.

They are actually using AI to help them with writing and also simutaneously

prevent plagiarism.

I'm not sure what the specific program is but I can find out.

Daughter of (9th grade) had to meet certain metrics on this AI writing assignment to be able to turn it in.

1) Your thighs should remain biased towards the vertical. Hinge at the hips and drive your ### backwards. The stretch should be in your hammies and glutes, not your lower back.

2) Squat is not at depth and butt wink is bad.

3) Yes, mommy.

zero clue, but I know my brothers teach HS and MS and it is tough for them, especially the English teacher one. One class last year could only write their essays during class time, nothing could be done at home, and it was all paper and pencil.

My English prof at Clemson did that in the '70's.

Essays had to be on loose leaf paper (not ripped out of a notebook - immediate F), in black ink (blue or another color = immediate F).

Topic dropped on us in class.

I was convinced it meant he did not have to teach that day, but it also made sure no one wrote it for us.

He always accused me of writing three pages before I decide what to write about. LOL. Dr Holt. Great buy by the way - easy B. That is all I wanted.

I don't have my students write papers or anything and honestly if they use AI to

do their assignments, I really don't care as long as they are doing some work. I have some that won't do anything for any reason. #frusterating

And then the parents complain that that teacher is obviously against their child

My high schooler does pretty impressive work on how AI is affecting the medical industry. Of course to write that essay, she did have to use some as part of the work

The middle schooler I am not really sure about, but the school district does expressly prohibit its use

I really don't know about all this. Both of mine are up and out of school system. But I'll relate a story when sonof was in middle school.

His English teacher commented at one open house "I don't know what they're teaching these kids in elementary school because none of them can spell. All they have to do is right click."

I turned to my wife and said, "It's because they are teaching them how to right click and not how to spell."

Do kids want to learn or do they just want to know which button to push? There is no intellectual curiosity about any subject when we default to teaching them how to use their computer. Now with AI, it seems they have to do little else.

For everything like AI, there is a counter measure program to detect it.

Yes, there are programs out there that can sniff it out. There is also some basic training that can help a person detect it by looking at things like the placement of hyphens, semicolons, etc.

I have a daugher on honors council at ________ institute of post high school learning. A spot known for purty good academics. Honors council is who rules on cheating in case you didn't know.

99% of what comes before them is a student using AI and passing it off as their work. They get convicted 100% of the time.

AI is a good learning tool, just like taking notes. Can't bring your notes to the test, and can't pass off AI as OG work either.

It ain't that hard to detect. Surprised you don't know this.

I know my son has used an AI tool to create study guides going into tests, but he's coordinated with the teachers ahead of time. I wouldn't be surprised if it's used in other capacities.

Best I've seen for any use of AI in schools popped into my instagram feed about a month ago - the teacher asked her students to use ChatGPT (or whatever) to write a response to a prompt then the students' actual task was to research to then prove or disprove the AI response. Seemed like a smart way to not avoid the inevitable, but also make the kids do a little work and learn (both the subject matter and that AI can't be trusted without checking its responses).
