Joining big 10 would be a positive for recruiting - imo

While I despise Ohio state and not grown up a big 10 fan - I can also say - I no longer like the sec. Of the two, I think one helps Clemson more than the other. BIG I say this because there are plenty of southern athletes who are recruited and join the BIG every year. Clemson would offer them the great place to play, be in the BIG, and still remain in the south for school and family. The reverse of that, is also recruiting up north and having players come south for the weather and remain in the BIG. In the SEC - we would simply be more of the same. Bama, LSU, Auburn, UT, etc. We would be another of the schools, while the BIG, we would be a different kind of team, location and school. Add to that, the SEC is not known for their academics while the BIG has a much better reputation.
JMO anyway.

I miss playing Maryland, even if they've fallen off. We had a pretty good rivalry with them.

I'm a little more intrigued by the BIG as well. I kinda want to be in a different conference than South Carolina. We can continue our beat down of them on yearly basis at the end of each season. It would also be some intriguing match ups week to week.

Just say you're scared Clemson wouldn't be relevant anymore if they joined the SEC. Only real excuse Clemson fans would have to not wanna join.

As long as Clemson continues to recruit consistent top 10 classes they will be relevant in any conference.

I'd pump the brakes and see how the new coordinators turn out before you post something that bold.

IMHO waiting to see how the coordinators work out may take too long and be too late. The whole college football landscape is changing pretty fast. It’s sort of like buying a home in a good neighborhood and over the years you see a change happening in your neighborhood where people don’t take care of their homes and the values start dropping. You either get out quickly, or wait and hope, or wait hope and get out late and lose your xss. Coordinators come and go over the year’s, look at your UGA team, how many changes in coaches have you seen in the past 5-10 years? A few to say the least, right?
I’m torn between the sec and the big 10, and no it has nothing to do with being scared of any teams. Clemson obviously belongs in the sec geographically but like another poster mentioned, playing in the big 10 and being in the SE brings both Clemson and the big 10 something that neither have. It gives the big10 a footprint in the SE and it gives Clemson even more exposure from coast to coast and north and south. Mr UGA says Clemson has no natural rivalry’s in that scenario, OSU fans hate Clemson for multiple beat downs. You don’t think that would be a natural rivalry? How about getting to play the Real USC, go and play at the big house in Ann Arbor and not to mention Penn State, UCLA.
You would get kids who want to play in the Big 10, PAC 12, ACC, etc. I’m originally from the Greenville area (Powdersville) and I’ve lived in n ga since 1984 so I’m not a lover of those northern schools whatsoever but I think the big10 scenario is what I would like to see and would serve Clemson well over the long haul and not to mention that I believe Dabo is not only a great coach, he is a great ambassador for the university. Parents of recruits love the fact that he teaches them to be good men first and the importance of life past college football (the paw journey). Many of the kids who would never have visited Clemson from up North or the West coast that want to play in the PAC 12 or Big10 would have another option, and I like the odds when Dabo gets recruits and their parents on campus. Just my opinion.

Well if Dabo thought enough of them to put them on staff I’m good with it. Didn’t the dogs get a new coordinator as well?
Barkley may want to worry about their defense the NFL just raped.
Great year last year though… congrats!

Regular top 10 classes will keep Clemson "relevant". Period. That applies to any school.
Our new DC will do very well. Gotta admit the OC has me very concerned.

If Georgia is relevent then I am as sure as he!! think Clemson will be…
Hey if we don’t get in the SEC get us on y’all’s schedule permanent would be preferable. That series should have never ended. We are basically in each other’s back yard.

Dumb comment Clemson will be relevant in any conference. We’ve already beaten every SEC team. We are not scared of anybody. Make the SEC kick Usuck out and take us or join the BIG. The BIG would be great for recruiting!!

the SEC’s best each time say otherwise. Being in the SEC hasn’t helped SC beat Clemson either. We all know that’s the real reason for your butthurt coot. Keep beating your feathered chest about a conference. It’s all you have. It’s all you’ve ever had. When the dust settles with all this realignment it will still be all you have. Your championship trophy case will still only have a 1969 ACC championship trophy gathering cobwebs. Sad. Really sad and trolling doesn’t change your sad reality as a gamecock fan.

There is some truth in what you say but the bottom line is that if we go to the BIG the we must have FSU and/or Miami with us! We need to be able to recruit Florida with our conference having a team there!
Right now Dabo has built Clemson and it’s brand and as long as he is around, where we go doesn’t matter that much…but long term, Clemson without Dabo, the ability to sustain eliteness will be determined based on what we do in the next year or so conference wise!!!
It’s a huge decision for the long term future of Clemson!!!

Total speculation here, but putting on my B1G commissioner's hat, I would definitely salivate over Clemson and Miami, especially. GT would give me ATL (though Clemson probably delivers ATL more or less, too).
I'm may well be hearing from Maryland lobbying for at least a couple of ACC teams: Clemson in football, and maybe UNC or VA for basketball. But if all other things were equal, I'd be looking hard at VaTech and NC State.
Doffing the hat, I've read a number of times over the years that people in other parts of the country consider NCSU a "sleeping giant." Not sure why they say that, because UNC has ruled them historically in both football and basketball, but they do seem attract a lot of attention.

I’m in other parts of the country and I’d sure like to see where you’ve seen NCState called a sleeping giant. I’ve never heard that before and I’d consider them just another sleepless midget. No giant there.

Clemzn1981 - I like your logic!
I agree with you! People are not thinking short therm i.m.o if they can't envision what you suggested there. From a recruiting standpoint - as you stated it would likely pay dividends immediately! There is also more $$$$$$$ to be made from joining the conference with the most eyeballs and tv sets(Big 10) which has: Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Philadelphia/Pittsburgh, New Jersey, Detroit, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and now Los Angeles!
The Big 10 currently pays out MORE than the SEC despite what so many people seem to think! WRONG! https://footballscoop.com/news/heres-how-much-each-power-5-conference-made-last-year
