Toughness?? He coaches them to turn and run to get back on D. Not going to have opportunities to tough out offensive rebounds if you are running away.

You are exactly right. I tried to make that exact point the other day. It's hard to crash the offensive board when everyone on the team is running the other way. You can only have it one way or the other.

I haven't seen a Brownell coached team yet who has done a good job with attacking the boards for rebounds or trying to box out at all. Of course those skills are also a dying art at all levels of basketball though. It appears it is seldom taught at all.

We have to pick our poison on some level.

Getting back on defense to prevent transition baskets means we aren’t going to get as many offensive rebounds.
We can crash the boards more, but will the points we might get from offensive rebounds offset the points we might give up by giving the other team easy transition buckets?

Coaches are paid a lot of money, so judging by the way the game is played today I would assume that the analytics say it's better to get back and play defense. I'm just old school, though, and enjoy seeing at least one guy on the team who likes to fight it out under the basket!

Obviously if the team we are playing is working for rebounds, all five of their players are not getting out on the break. We should have our guards and one forward getting back to stop the break, but not all five,

win enough games against good enough teams so we can make the tournament and try to justify Brad's 38th highest salary.
You need to try to rebound and get back on defense. How long you been watching the game of basketball, Mrs. Brownell?
Stop the excuses.

If we shot at a higher percentage rate, then getting back on defense is probably best from an analytics POV. But when your team is bricking 17 shots in a row and not attempting to rebound, analytics hardly matter. It seems rational to me that getting an offensive rebound and a put back is a good way to break a 0-for-many shooting streak, but CBB *must* know something, right?

The last three games we have looked like Rec league players up against street ball guys. Just pushing us around. And not everyone needs to rush back into defense. Leave one or two trying to get the offensive rebound coach.

Worse, we have 4 guys all on the perimeter and when a shot goes up, the 5-slot runs off the blocks to get to the other end to play defense along with the 4 perimeter players. Which is fine when the shot goes through the hoop.

Those of us that saw the game against Miami all saw them just dominate the boards. Rebounding is about technique and being in the proper position and then being quicker and more physical than your opponent. Rebounding is as much mental as it is physical and we have to be better at both. If there are no black eyes in practice this week, we have not worked hard enough on rebounding.

The Tigers are ok on the defensive boards. 2 offensive rebounds is not dominating. (see my prior poast)

They really lack a true big man with length, they look big around the perimeters....just not under the basket. But simple fundamentals like boxing out and establishing position on shots would do wonders. They def need to do something, just about all the losses are due to 2nd chance points from not rebounding or getting loose balls.

Brownell seems like a really nice person and coach does he not? I've heard it said payers take on the personality of their coach. May not be true but maybe that's one issue with CBB's teams now and in the past.

It says that he raised the standards of the football program. They won the ACC and 11 games and it was still a disappointing year.Getting to the next level is something that Brad has not been able to do yet with basketball but this might be the year. Just don;t understand why you have to throw off on Dabo when you defend Brad. Look at the facilities we have now compared to when Dabo got things rolling. This is the house that Dabo built homie.

between the football and basketball programs under current coaches.
You go first.
I mean the only one I can think of for Brad was the world championship thingy. We're the best in the world baby!

Would love to be in that room. I can live with a bad year being in the mix for a natty, winning conf title, and winning 10+ games.
If a Brad team finished in top 10 - just once - we would be amazed. Now do it every year.

Players mimic and reflect their coach. Remember Rick Barnes. Brownell is talking to himself if his players are not tough and physical enough. That’s what I’ve seen for years.

No mention of other issues like…

1. Consistently poor perimeter defense for years; 2. Poor defense at critical moments with the game on the line or just before half; 3. REALLY unwise shot selection; 4. No driving to the basket for long stretches; 5. Scoring draughts for extended periods; 6. Poor coach’s ability to teach the players to draw the foul, especially when opposing teams have obvious sloppy, hands.

Shocking that Brad plays mid major ball - shocking I tell u!

In 13 years Other than PJ - when did we have an inside game - like the big boys play? Why do we have undersized guards? Why do we not have a rebounding - shot blocker? Why does Brad not recruit/retain inside guys?
Because he is a mid major kind of coach. It works there - but not in power conferences. Shoot lots of 3s and hope you don’t go cold. (Have many minutes without scoring).
Actually, this is the first year that Clemson has had both inside and outside game. And guess what - we are competitive. Although the bad of the ACC has a bit to do with it, but I will still appreciate it.
The problem is , Hunter leaves this year and who is taking up the slack?
