Jimbo Fisher: Would he jump to Texas?

Nov 3, 2013, 12:28 PM

IMHO, we will continue to operate at a recruiting disadvantage so long as Jimbo Fisher is at FSU. FSU is now at the point where their recruiting has made the difference against us (and Miami) and it looks like that will continue for the foreseeable future. While we have obviously gone into Florida to pluck out good talent from the state, FSU holds its home court well and is benefiting from Florida's troubles as well.

The only thing that I could see disrupting FSU's dominance is if Texas spends its Longhorn Network dollars and gets Jimbo to go to Texas. What do you think? Would they offer him, and more importantly, would he go?

doubtful if they win the championship. if they lose probably even more doubtful unless Texas throws Nick Saban money at him.. then they may as well get Saban.. lol

uh, no, he has FSU back on top

and no we aren't at a recruiting disadvantage against FSU. We recruit about just as good as they do. Difference between us and them this year, is they have good oline with lots of experience.

Experience and they showed weaknesses on both lines in the past 3 yrs and that was with fisher and slightly higher rated linemen. This will even out. What we need is two rbs to emerge as first options. On d, our secondary should become more and more of a strength in the near future.

Seems like a lateral move not a step up

Don't know why he would even consider it.

Texas is the biggest program in the nation***

refers to. But I don't see Fisher being able to build a much better program and recruit that many better players than he can at FSU. If he's only after extra dollars then maybe. But why take the risk? It's one thing to build a program up to a peak in a lesser conference or to go to a pro team. I just don't see what Fisher could do at Texas that he couldn't do at FSU, if not even better.

He can earn a much, much bigger paycheck, if TX wants him badly enough. FSU doesn't have the depth in their pockets TX has. Will they offer JF the job, I don't know, but if money is the factor, FSU couldn't match it. I don't know if anybody could.

Still think the odds are slim Fisher would go only for money

Nov 3, 2013, 1:37 PM

especially with his FSU program packed like it is and no end in sight to keep up the recruiting. It's not like he's making pennies. Approaching 3 mil and being the highest paid coach in both the league and the state of FL is pretty good. I doubt they would offer him Mack Brown level pay to start either, so it's not like he'd be doubling his pay. Huge risk. Not a lot of reward.

Good points, and all of these coaches are paid obscene packages now, and I doubt many would go just for the money alone. The TX job would be regarded by most as a huge promotion in terms of prestige, but having the table set with talent at FSU probably overrides what TX offers in the near term. They will get a big name coach, though. I would bet on that.

I disagree, Texas HS football is huge

They are overrun with talented players who would pick Texas over any other school.

FSU will probably lose more juniors to the draft

this year than any team in history. They're loaded, Jimbo has done agreat job.

As a side note, people tend to overlook the fact that technically Jimbo has been at this for 7 years. Ever since he was NAMED HC in waiting , he was the Co HC and all decisions were ran through him.

Dabo and Staff will continue to recruit well and the "sky is falling, FSU is back, wecan't compete" crowd need to find a rock to get back under, or maybe another team to root for.

which falls on coaching. Our problem period is poor to average coaching. We are winning primarily thanks to superior talent and Morris. But even Morris has show some play calling weaknesses and bad habits during his tenure here.
