Does anyone else besides me think he is the most overrated coach in football? I think aTm will regret that contract, even though they have seemingly limitless cash. Recruiting and coaching are 2 different things{Mack Brown}.

A great quarterback can make a mediocre coach look really good. See Chizik, chuck amoto, Rich Rod, etc.

Because Deshaun Watson made Tony Elliot and Jeff Scott look brilliant. Not saying they aren't good, but I don't think they are nearly close to what Deshaun did under them. They really struggled at times this year and were completely out-schemed against Bama.

Clemson just won a conference title, made the playoffs and finished 4th with KB. A season like that for the chickens would be the best in their entire history yet we can’t have a good season without Deshaun.

dramatically from his first day there.
Stanford was West coast Wake Forest. 49'ers sucked, and at least he got them to a Super Bowl. He won at U f San Diego. Michigan was a dumpster fire and they were dramatically better in season 1.
He's a good qb from winning the B1G. Has always had good defense.

I’m actually going to ride the fence on this one. When he started he had Bowden’s players sure, but he recruited really well and won a lot of ball games before the wheels came off. He is walking into an opportunity that few coaches have Swinney and Saban being two, in that they have the resources, facilities and desire to have an elite program. He won’t fail because he doesn’t have support. I actually wish him great success with any and everyone he plays, except Clemson. I hope he knocks the beak off of the dirtpeckers and runs havoc over the rest of the rest of the SEC

He raised the talent level at FSU back to where it was before Bowden went completely over the hill in the 2000s.

HE MAY NOT BE OVERRATED AT ALL. COULD BE A TOP 10 COACH OR MAYBE HE IS TOP 25.
HE IS A TOP RECRUITER AND PLAY CALLER IMHO.
I AM GOING TO HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH YOUR OPINION.

He seems to be challenged in terms of character. Is a great recruiter and decent coach but did not do much after crab legs moved to the NFL. Were I king of aTm CCM would have been my choice over Fisher as for me character always counts and catches up to a coach in the end

In his final few years at FSU he definitely underachieved. FSU has five stars all over the field and it's unacceptable to lose as many games as they did over the last 3 years or so with as much talent that it is in Tallahassee. That being said, A&M is a sleeping giant just waiting to be awoken. They have great facilities, a large and passionate fan base, and a gold mine of recruits in the state of Texas that want to play in the SEC. Jimbo has all the resources to succeed and will have the talent...but will he flounder with it like he did in his last few years at FSU? Who knows

Obviously a good recruiter, and he has a national championship and several ACC championships on his resume. Given the talent he has acquired, I think his teams should've done better in some of them. He's a good but not great coach IMO.
Harbaugh is far more overrated if you ask me. What has he won? He did pretty well at Stanford, but he hasn't done much at Michigan.

The field at multiple positions. You can say he was a good recruiter but then again you could say FSU will recruit itself.

Agree FSU recruits itself. For those on this board and all the sports media that fall all over Saban and kiss his butt remember Bama pretty much runs itself. But so many on here are so willing to place Saban on a pedestal. He is a good coach.
I think what Dabo has accomplished at Clemson outshines anything Saban has done at Bama because Saban is at a school where it’s much easy to recruit, get really good coaches and they have lots of cash to throw around.
I will take Dabo over Saban every time!

They won 1 Natty after Bear and before Nicky. That's 29 years. But I do believe Saban has been great.

To some extent I agree but Bama was in trouble during those years with the NCAA. 2 of those years they were not even allowed to go to a BG. Bama is the easiest school to recruit at and they have more money than Fort Knox.
So no I don’t think Saban is anything but a good coach at a great school. And the SEC is not the same conference it was when Debois, Franchione and Shula were there.

I honestly don't know. He did well until family problems messed him up. Maybe new job bring back his passion for the game. I don't like him, but the jury on him as a coach is still out.

Most overrated coach in recent history
Jan 14, 2018, 4:42 PM

Nothing but an OC...amazes me how these guys get labeled as great coaches, yet there is underachieving, and character issues swirling all around them. Too many 5 stars, not enough results. He is another Richt to me. Sounds like us, looks like us, he is one of us so we like him. Whatever man. I despise FSU with a passion. A&M just made a bad deal. Do not care....I will take CDS over any coach in the nation, period.

Recruits at a ridiculous level so he's always going to be competitive, but his assistant hires ultimately decide whether he's a 10 win coach or a national title coach.
