I’m talking the real deal straight forward lion. Not a Nittany lion or a lion fish or anything like that. I’ve got a feeling there’s one but I’m having a brain fart. Anyways GO TIGERS!!!!

Actually kind of crazy how rarely they are used as mascots, considering all they can symbolize (strength, courage, etc).
None of the main football conferences have one. Columbia is probably the most significant.

I think Auburn is considering adding Lion to their mascot(s). The War Eagle, Tiger, and Plainsman are not working for them. Plus, they plan to build a lake close by.

As I have been told by my Auburn alumni wife more times than I can remember: the mascot is Aubie the Tiger. "War Eagle" is their battle cry. The Plainsmen is a honor club....guess it's like Clemson's Blue Key thing.

Hofstra is the Pride (a pride of lions judging by their logo). They used to be the Flying Dutchmen.

As a Penn State grad (and Clemson grad), I can tell you that the Nittany Lion is actually a ‘real’ lion mascot. ‘Nittany’ simply refers to the mountain - Mount Nittany - overlooking State College on which the lions were found until they died out at the turn of the century. Not sure how else you’re defining a lion mascot, but that seems like it would fit the bill. The last known mountain lion is stuffed and sitting in the library. It’s the real deal! ...Go Tigers!
