I've got 2 words for better WR play

Jun 22, 2022, 1:46 PM

Tight End.

Been said many times here, and really seems to get lost in translation throughout the past, what, 5 seasons? We've actually recruited fairly well at the position. Lots of injuries and even more inconsistent play and/or play calling.

That threat can really balance our offense when they're a down field threat. Even a slot threat - where we also have lacked since HR13, and also using Amari deep while missing a dialed in Ross.

If we keep having to use them for extra blocking (looking at you O-line) they'll get hurt more, have zero production stats, and keep that threat low.

I hope Brandon can incorporate these guys to go catch more often. It really will take some miracles on the line, and much better QB play.

Time will tell, but I am anxious to see what these guys can do this year

That's not a 100% true, Jeff Scott recruited and coached up some great WR's without us having a TE that we could bragg about. And we beat the best team that Bama had ever had with only Jeff Scott's WR's that smoked Bama at every position on the field with his WR's group!!! Good TE's are a plus to have, but not a must have....

I don't know...Micheal Palmer, Dwayne Allen and Jordan Leggett were pretty instrumental in our rise (especially Leggett with that ridiculous final drive grab in '16...maybe the play of the game for us, IMO). Granted it helped that we had whatever 13 (Grisham, Humphries and Renfrow) at the time to make those third down targets less obvious, but still. And don't get me wrong not including Amari in that group; he played the slot well. Using him there was a matter of necessity, but he was more ideal running post and corner routes out of the field or out routes in the boundary. We need a solid slant guy to get underneath and convert that 3rd and 6 every time. Granted, that takes a bit more accuracy than we saw last year, but we can hope. That way, the slot threat opens the TE sneaking off the line and wheel routes slipping out of the backfield. Remember when we were good at those and didn't embarrass ourselves with naked and poorly executed screens all the time?

Lol. If you honestly don't know which "13" we had in 2016,

Jun 22, 2022, 3:52 PM

then you have just outed yourself as a non-fan troll with your own information (lack of). It couldn't BE more obvious that you have either a bunch of feathers, or a bunch of dawg hair showing. Feathers most likely.

Hint: the "13" you didn't know the name of caught the winning pass with one second to go in the SAME GAME where you mentioned the Legget catch. You should do a more thorough job of getting facts in a row before ye troll.

I can understand why Coots want to come on here now, though. Do you all still even HAVE a TNET type message bored since FGF went the way of the Dodo?

And you have just outed yourself as the apex of bandwagon fandom if you think Renfrow was the only slot guy we ever saw production from. How was I trolling anyone by commenting on needing another amazing slot receiver? Whatever. I'm a lifelong fan (hence the "Since I Was Four") as well as an alumni, so go back in your trailer, yell at your mom to get busy heating up your Hotpockets and leave the discussion to the people who have followed this program for more than five years.

But by all means, keep up the stellar work, oh great and powerful keyboard warrior. By the way, I bet you use "LOL" out loud in conversation. Tool.

Pretty sure he was referring to the string of 13's we had that were go-to 3rd down options, not one particular year...just sayin'

That Palmer catch against Miami where he got knocked out. I will remember that forever!

guys who were recruited to Clemson as WRs and who became good TEs while Jeff Scott was on staff.

Michael Palmer and Dwayne Allen we’re both recruited and signed with Clemson while Jeff Scott was either at Blythewood HS or at Presbyterian College.

Jeff Scott didn’t get a full time staff spot at Clemson until 2008.

You Betcha!

TEs and slot receivers open up the back door for the 2/9 WRs and RB wheel routes. Without them, the safeties just lay back and wait to pick you off.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mine would be “catch ball.”

Jun 28, 2022, 5:16 PM

Saw way to many drops last year.

And a rock solid, dependable TE would be great, too!

TEs and RBs caught 72 passes last

Jun 29, 2022, 8:07 AM

year, and that doesn't include the times they were the primary target. We throw to our TEs as much we need to.

The two words you're looking for are:

Quarter Back

That will fix the WR "issues".

Re: I've got 2 words for better WR play

Jun 29, 2022, 8:10 AM

True.

But mainly better QB play. Throw the OL in there as well, but I feel good about that group ghis year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Three words actually….
