It's time to bring Tim Corbin home

Jun 2, 2013, 6:02 PM

He has done an outstanding job at Vanderbilt but Vandy doesn't have the resources that we do at Clemson. He loves Clemson and we can pay him a lot more too. Jack's teams have gone down since Corbin left. He was always the ace recruiter. Lets get Tim home ASAP !!

if you dont think vandy has twice the resources as we do then you are very misinformed or really are just causing trouble. and please fill us in on what vandy has won since he has been there.

Interesting statement, can you back it up with actual evidence?

A little reality throw into the conversation. Neither Corbin, or O'Sullivan at Florida would take the Clemson job. First reason is that both are too devoted to Jack by taking his job if Jack was pressured out in any way. Second is it appears they both have better jobs. Some say Corbin lacks this, or that, at Vandy, but he was number one in the country. Can't get any higher. And Florida is just a better job than Clemson. And no matter what fans want to think, coaches don't have nearly the devotion for a school that a fan base does. Fans are in it for life. Coaches are mercenaries and are in it until the next best offer comes along. Did this two enjoy their time at Clemson? I am sure they probably did. But it was just a step on the coaching ladder for them, not the love affair some folks think it becomes.

It isn't "home"...

Jun 2, 2013, 6:07 PM

He's from New Hampshire and recruits the Northeast very heavily. He has 6 guys from Massachusetts on his roster. Vanderbilt absolutely has the resources that Clemson has and he hasn't won anything in the postseason in his 11 years at Vanderbilt. He's made one trip to Omaha and it was a brief one. He's turned out lots of big-name Major Leaguers but done very little with them while they were in college.

Vandy can give every member a full ride because of the school's financial aid structure.

Unless that changes, it's a better job than Clemson and even South Carolina.

I think Vandy's endowment is in the neighborhood of 5 billion. We don't want to get into a checkbook battle with them.

Jun 2, 2013, 8:06 PM [ in reply to Re:Vandy probably dwarfs Clemson and SC in resources. As ]

The market value for Vanderbilt University's endowment funds increased by 6.2 percent from 2009 to 2010, according to data released Friday by the National Association of College and University Business Officers and Commonfund Institute.
Vanderbilt ranked 21st nationally in endowment size, with $3.04 billion in funds, up from $2.87 billion in 2009.

Clemson University
Endowment: $401 million as of March 31, 2010
Location: Clemson, South Carolina

The athletic departments at Florida State and Virginia generated the most revenue among ACC schools during the 2011-12 fiscal year, according to data compiled by the U.S. Department of Education.

Here’s a closer look at where each ACC athletic department ranks in a variety of categories:

TOTAL REVENUES
Florida State – 81,444,039
Virginia – 81,321,219
North Carolina – 78,830,350
Duke – 78,604,895
Clemson – 66,988,424

Vandy does not have an athletic department but operates sports under the Department of Student Affairs. Therefore the athletic budge is not known. But the average revenues in the SEC last year were $71MM.

Don't use three-year-old information. Current numbers aren't that hard to find from the official university sites. Vanderbilt currently self-reports an endowment of 3.4B. All told, they have net assets in the 5B neighborhood.

Clemson's info is also easy to find, but I'm too lazy right now to interpret it (it looks like some people report the endowment as total and not net assets)..

Archie's dead-on. Vandy is flush with cash. They could buy Clemson, Carolina and UGA....and have spare change. If Corbin were to come to Clemson, it wouldn't be b/c Vandy couldn't afford to out bid us. That's just the way it is.

Well, they have money.
But they are also smart with money. If schools with a lot of wealth could afford to buy good coaches, then schools like Stanford would be good in football.

Sorry, I mean if schools with a lot of wealth "wanted" to buy good coaches, then schools like Stanford would be good in football. They did have that good QB though (Elway, I think his name was).

Point well made, Archie. Money in the bank doesn't necessarily yield success on the field. If it did, Vandy would win the SEC every year in football.

Thank you, but no. Mr. Corbin along with all of the other members of the Leggett coaching tree have the Jack Leggett stain. I'd prefer someone who has actually won at the highest level of collegiate baseball or someone's who teams do not choke.

Alright. So let's hear some names. Lets see exactly how much you know about college coaches. Of wait, if you actually knew of good candidates you would already have named them by now wouldn't you?
