5 out of last 8 teams to supposedly get in are from the sec. This is their conference record as of today.

Oklahoma 3-9
Vandy 5-7
Texas. 5-8
Arkansas 4-8
Ugay 4-9

The big dance should not being giving out bids to teams that can’t even finish .500 in conference play. Getting beyond ridiculous. Tell me how Oklahoma with a 3-9 record is even considered and they are the top of the 5 sec teams to get the last at large bids.

Three of first four first teams out from the Acc. Wake, SMU, and Wake. Think wake is only team that should be in.

I agree, and felt the same way when ACC teams with sub .500 conference records used to get into the NCAA Tournament.

The ACC records were typically only one game under 500, not this nonsense now.

its a gauntlet. They just beat each other up. There is no bias. Honest.

also. There are years we got screwed and the conference got screwed on bids but this is different than those. Unfortunately the SEC absolutely brutalized a really good non-conference schedule. The SEC has a win % north of 80% I believe. It is an extremely deep conference and those teams if they get in will wins one games. OU is just an example but I bet if you looked at each of those teams non-conference, you’ll probably find similar results.

I have followed Oklahoma basketball for almost 40 years, and you cannot tell me that there are tournament team. You also cannot tell me that they would beat any of those teams in the ACC outside looking in. Yes they had a really good non-conference schedule and beat some really good teams, however, they are awful. They're poorly coached very impatient with the basketball, and do not play smart at all. They remind me of the Clemson teams under Larry Shyatt, win some good games but overall just bad. Now OU has five ranked teams coming up and they very well could play their way in to the tournament, but there is no way they beat any of those teams, and for them to be considered over these other bubble teams is laughable at best.

It's one thing to be under .500....but under .400 should be a clear no-go.....

There's precedent for teams going 8-10 or whatever and getting in,
particularly if they pick up a conference tourney win or two.

But if you end up finishing 7-11 or 6-12 in the SEC...that's not even .400

I don't foresee the ACC getting many teams in...but my guess is
that there are other conferences that may have some teams to take
those SEC spots.

ACC will have Duke, Clemson, Louisville....and likely one more.

I think Wake probably gets there. SMU has an outside chance, but just got
hit with an untimely injury bug.

Wake probably loses 1 more to Duke
SMU probably loses 1 to us

Duke, UL, Clemson should all be able to win out. I don't know enough about Wake and SMU to know if one or the other, or both get in. They both will have +20 wins. A lot could be determined by ACCT, play their way in or out.

IF Wake could pull the upset vs Duke then we get the 3-way for ACCT tiebreaker, probably still too early to have an idea how that shakes out

1: Duke
2: UL (tiebreaker over Clemson)
3: Clemson
4: Wake (tiebreaker over SMU)
5: SMU

and even then, with less teams and games, .500 was not a guarantee to get in. <.500 was not getting in unless there was some miracle.

This is what AI came up with when searching for below .500 teams to make the Tourny. Not sure if this is accurate, but AI is smarter than I am.

number of times that a team from the acc got into the NCAA tournament with a record below .500 in conference play
From the available data up to March 2024, here are the instances where teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) have made the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament with a record below .500 in conference play:

2018: Wake Forest finished with a 4-14 record in ACC play but made the NCAA Tournament as part of an at-large bid. They had a strong non-conference schedule and some good wins outside of conference play.
2021: Syracuse managed to get into the NCAA Tournament with a 9-10 record in ACC play. Their inclusion was somewhat controversial, but they had several key wins, including a victory over Virginia, which helped their case.
2023: Pittsburgh squeaked into the tournament with an 11-11 record in ACC play. They had a decent out-of-conference record and some quality wins that contributed to their selection.

These instances are relatively rare due to the competitive nature of the ACC and the NCAA selection committee's preference for teams with winning conference records or significant non-conference achievements. Remember, the NCAA selection process considers numerous factors beyond just conference play, including strength of schedule, quality wins, and performance in the conference tournament.

That was before ESPN bought the SEC and began full-court pimping/recruiting for them 24/7. Remember, the selection process considers numerous factors beyond just conference play, including whether you are in the SEC or not.

Not surprisingly, both of those teams were one and done in the Big Dance.

If you can’t figure out how to win at least half of your conference games, you aren’t NCAA Tournament worthy. Period.
