I know a lot of y’all like to bash him for not using it and that may be fair but you have to admit that’s pretty impressive.

There is no way to know what we would be ranked with any number of transfers at any position. Nor what effect receiving transfers would've had on the existing roster. We'd be as likely to be unranked.

Plenty of good arguments for using the portal but this ain't one of em.

Maybe not, but I certainly don't think we would be worse off if we had more depth...

Yeah, because more depth and more talent...

The question is not whether more depth or talent is good, the question is would the TP have actually led to more depth and more talent. Or even if it did, if the team would be better?

What your post actually said: "Imagine how our team would have fared had we, 12 months ago, undertaken a number of actions of uncertain outcome leading to innumerable reactions of uncertain outcome?"

What you think you said: "Imagine if we were better?"

For the heaviest users, the TP has worked very well to improve some teams (Colorado/SC). It's been a mixed bag for others (Ole Miss/Louisville). And it's been a bust for others (FSU/NC State).

So it's hit or miss. You don't know. I don't know. And neither does anyone else.

I know for a fact that effective TP use would have led

To more depth. Basic math.

We lost 14 transfers in the office season.
That's in addition to normal attrition from graduation and early de-enrollment for the NFL.

We had to replace all of those guys with walk ons or true freshmen.

That clearly results in less talent and less depth.

You're arguing to never try to score because you might miss. That's a non competitive mindset.

As I said last week, we lost 11 to the portal (or 12 if you count Zanders which you shouldn't because he hadn't been on the team for 2 years), and that was tied with OkSt for 2nd lowest in the P4 behind Nebraska with 10. And you linked the on3 site saying "no, we lost 14", but the on3 site actually showed 1 less than I said, because it doesn't include Kissayi (who left in spring before his freshman year). So where on earth are you getting 14 from? It's either 10 or 11 (not counting Zanders)

No, I'm arguing that the result you postulated is unknowable.

You indicate we would be ranked higher than 12th had we used the portal.

I can as easily argue that we would be 6-5. Equally likely.

The portal is fine. I'm not against it. I think we should use it. But it's no silver bullet.

Losing players, in any capacity, is the never-ending problem in college football. Backfilling them is an unknown, whether it's from recruiting or the portal. Either way, until you have answers, you still have questions.

I can just imagine we win the NC by a point. And your post is:

"We'd have won by 3 TD if we used the portal!"

Tiresome non-sense.

a pretty impressive set of big time contributors. Thurmon on the OL, Williams and Boyd, Barnes. When anyone talks portal you have to include who to cut, or not have brought in out of HS to begin with. Roster sizes have limits. Folks here complain about being so young because of no portal action but our incoming class size has ranked around 40+, not near the numbers of those ahead up the pecking order. We get dudes that mostly stick around apparently.

We used to be ranked in the top 5 perennially. He has not kept up with the recruiting times. We have less talent and less talented depth. Things have to change.

That Louisville game was a head scratcher on many fronts. We certainly did not come into that game ready to play, and with little to no energy. That was just one of those games where Louisville wanted it more and played like it.

I hope we did learn something about better managing and preparing after a bye week because that sure seemed to have played a part as well.

Transfers don't always pan out to work, esp with a culture that Dabo has built. Right or wrong, it's hard to argue how he manages his roster. The only ding I have is I wish he wouldn't show favoritism to his sons and their Daniel HS friends...said it before, looks like the Kappa Alpha chapter at Clemson.

Ranked 12 with only one win against a team with a winning record and two loss against the other teams with winning records on our schedule so far…in some ways this is Dano’s greatest achievement our brand is so strong!
