leaving the ACC. Many of them make the statement that the SEC already has the markets in South Carolina and Florida. But it is a totally different TV watching group for Clemson and UofSuk or Florida and Florida St. Also you have Alabama and Auburn, Texas and Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Mississippi, Vanderbilt and Tennessee. I think this is just off base thinking that the SEC would not take Clemson and Florida St because they have UofSUK and Florida.

A content expert? Maybe. It’s all opinion. Some get inside scoops by playing the media game. But they know about as much as we do. I cite the 2016 National Championship. Every “expert” said that Bama team was by far his best ever. Clemson had no shot to win. 44-16 beatdown later and that clemson team is considered one of the best of the college football playoff era. You’d have the same results flipping a coin. At least you’d be right half the time.

You have to look at it from the perspective of media numbers. Yes different people watch the games but the market is covered. No new market is opened up with Clemson and Florida State. They do open up new territory for the Big 10, which is why many people suggest UNC, Duke, UVA, or NC State for the SEC. The two conferences are going to settle between themselves a mutually beneficial solution because of the revenue that they both stand to gain through the playoff. They will not fight over schools with plenty to go around.

You also have to look at match ups. What gets more viewers? South Carolina vs Alabama or Clemson vs Alabama?
What gets more views? Florida vs Miss St or Florida vs FSU?
It's all about viewership with some of the old subscriber base theory thrown in there. This is why I believe that teams like South Carolina, Kentucky, Vandy, Miss St, Illinois, Northwestern etc. will eventually be driven from the super conferences. Teams with no football lineage to hang their hats on and it must be semi-recent successful or they will be driven out.

You’re missing the point. Clemson value isn’t in the viewership per se. Clemson brings a tangible revenue stream based on post season appearances. Bonus dollars come for playoff teams. If we followed your logic, the SEC wouldn’t have AllBarn and Alabama. Alabama covers the state. Clemson puts butts in seats as well as eyes on tv. Viewership is a tiny part of the equation. You’re saying Alabama at Clemson isn’t attractive? Think again.

i think it has to do with how the media companies get to

add charges to the subscribers in that state. This surfaced during the conversations to add Calford and SMU. Now that the ACC is in those states, ESPN gets to add some fees onto those subscribers’ bills — regardless if they are fans of those programs. I think that language uses the state borders instead of some other regional demographics as conditions, hence why it’s repeated.

Yep. I read that ff the SEC adds UNC, then every cable customer in NC gets an increased charge on their bill because NC is then considered an SEC home state.
If the SEC adds Clemson NO cable customer get an increased bill because the SEC via the gamecocks is already considered an SEC home state.
If the BIG10 adds Clemson then every cable customer in SC gets an added charge on their bill. This makes FSU and Clemson more valuable from day 1 to the BIG10 than to the SEC.
Seems an oddity in billing, but that is said to be the way it works for cable billing.

TV markets are *the* motivator behind conference realignment, and the SEC expands with that fact in mind. They've all but openly stated that TV markets are the biggest con for adding Clemson and FSU.
All those other schools you mentioned, other than Texas and Texas A&M, were in the SEC long before TV markets became the prime motivator for conference realignment. As for Texas, the SEC would have been an absolute fool for not admitting them. IIRC they have far and away the largest athletic endowment in the country, not to mention a huge regional following that TAMU does not.
I think FSU could make the case that they'd bring in new TV viewers in the Gulf Coast area, but Clemson doesn't have the advantage of new TV markets.
