it is an issue everywhere you look, but this offense needs one years worth of reps...and a few more playmakers...

Our program needs an experienced coaching staff. The problems that we are seeing are the very same problem that we have seen since the very first game of the season, and our staff don't have a clue of how to fix it, if they did, it would have been fixed when we played game #2, and here it is going into game #8 and those same problem are causing us to lose games games.

During this time since Dabo has been our head coach, did you ever imagine our FB team getting beat down by Duke the way that they beat us, a 28-7 Duke win...

Re: So its not an effort issue, its a coaching issue.

Oct 25, 2023, 1:24 AM

That was the 7th game of the season and we started out making the very same mistakes. Ball security should be the #1 priority going forward. If we continue to turn the ball over we can forget about beating ND, UNC, NC State, and Usuc. We have to be able to run the ball and our OL has got to step up. Inside the Red Zone we are not very good and that relates to the OL.

Oct 23, 2023, 5:41 PM [ in reply to So its not an effort issue, its a coaching issue. ]

Judge Keller that is what I've been really loud about for the past two seasons now, and just bc we were winning over lowly ACC FB teams, nobody wanted to hear about my opinion of Dabo's hand picked coaching staff from out the office building that had no real coaching experience, especially not enough experience to being coaching in a program like we have prided ourselves of having over the past 10 years, and those hires have crippled the talent that's with the FB program right now. If Dabo sticks with those coaches, we will lose most of that talent, and it will be hard to get that type of talent back once it's gone...

I truly hope that Dabo can find a way to swallow some of his pride and admit to himself that his plan to grow his coaching staff within just didn't work the way he wanted to, and he will do a serious coaching search and bring in a crew of top power 5 coaches that can and will coach up the talent that we have. If he does that, recruits will see that he will do what's necessary to make coaching changes that helps the program grow, and not bring it down....

And let’s all get on our knees and pray that none of our recruits read this poisonous diatribe!!!

Yep he’s not perfect… are you, I know I’m not…. Could we have better coaching at certain areas, Probably, but you can’t throw out the baby with the bath water. I’m not gonna say give him a chance , because you will say … he’s had 3 or 4 years to fix this… I guess you don’t count the Riley hire as going outside the building, after all his brother is a coach, so DABO screwed that one up 2. Man I dont know what kind of work you do, but you must be the undisputed ruler of your industry!!!!

Food for thought!!!!

We just hired the supposed best offensive coordinator in the country. Coaches can't hang on to the ball for them! I'm not impressed with Riley's play calling in the red zone. Just saying!!

Problem is he has not got the players TCU had either not even close, we really do not have any solid play makers that's consistent. Brown is the closest we have so far and he's inconsistent as well with muffed punts just saying.

Identify talent early and make more offers, with the understanding that we aren’t waiting for you before moving on.

Continue to emphasize what makes Clemson special, including outstanding facilities, NFL placement, great fans, excellent education, pretty campus, etc.

Utilize the portal to address needs.

As you would argue for Brad, Judge Keller®, there is still the execution of the plays and we have lacked that. Players can be put in the right positions and know the plays, but doesn’t mean it will be successful. It is, as in basketball, a coaching problem and an execution of the plays called and ability to get it done

Crazy to think that turnovers have been our demise this season. Basically beat ourselves which stings even more. DW4 also had a ton of turnovers but it didn’t hurt because he was able to put up so many points. We have a major issue on offense and it starts with our offensive line and coaching. Very, very underwhelmed with Riley.

i busted out laughing about halfway through reading this article, it's not even that what dabo said is bad, or much that i disagree with, i just wonder sometimes if he is aware how much he brings up the past.....when he started in on the "only 2 or 3 teams have done what we've done the last 7 years" i just never hear saban and other top coaches refer so much and so specifically to past accomplishments when he's in the midst of a dry run.

I feel like dabo hangs on to the past a little like a sensory toy or safety blanket.

Dabo used to say that past accomplishments are in the rear view mirror and that this team is a new team. In business and in sports you either produce or you're gone. That's just the way it is . I heard Saban on an interview and he said that CFB has changed and you can't grip about it you have to accept it and change with it. $$$$$ money has changed everything in college sports and you adapt or you lose.

I think Arnold Palmer said his dad said you don’t need to worry about telling people about how good you are. If you are really good they’ll tell you. Dabo is shouting how good he and his program are. It’s sounding a little desperate.

But I love Dabo’s spin…” we’re in the valley now, where the soil is fertile. The valley is where we grow…where God prepares us to climb to the mountain top.”

I’d like to be able to go to my boss when I’ve screwed up or otherwise underperformed and say “I can’t work any harder.” Maybe his point is to take up for the players and coaches knowing how hard they work. I DO believe they work extremely hard. I DO believe Dabo wants to win just as much as us fans do if not more. I also believe there’s an element of working smarter not harder that’s at the bottom of all this. It takes a lot of self-awareness (open mindedness) to accept that and to try things differently.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Perhaps...just maybe...

Hey bud, I never once said that Dabo was finished. I believe that Dabo can do the very same things as he has done at Clemson, but he will have to let go of the friendships that he is hiring for coaches. If he stays on the same path he's going down now, he will never be successful again, not at Clemson!!!

There isn't a coach on Sabna's staff that he wouldn't run off today if they had the same results that Dabo is getting from his staff starting 2 years ago!!!

Bear Bryant completely changed his offense which facilitated the amazing success during the latter stages of his career. Nick Saban did the same thing. Dabo refuses to change. Therein lies the rub!

“ Probably not going to win it this year” .. win what? Heck, try to win a game or two. I understand now why we line up in the shotgun, even on 3rd and one on the opponents one. Our friggin’ Oline gets pushed back one to three yards on every play. If under center the QB would get pushed back on his but and our RB’s would have to fight the Dline for the handoffs. We’re soft and undisciplined, and it’s coaching, Coach.

Same ol Dabo. Talking about something that has nothing to do with what’s wrong.

All he does is deflect nowadays. Anytime he opens his mouth he’s deflecting and bringing up something from the past that we accomplished.

I’m so sick of hearing the whole “only a couple teams have had the success we have over the last X # of years”. Nobody cares what happened 5 years ago. In todays college football that’s ancient history.

Dabo is going to kill this program unless he does a complete 180 and starts recruiting coaching and developing the way it’s done today in 2023.

We live in a totally different world than we did in 2018. College football has completely changed and the way to win back in 2018 is worlds different than the way to win in 2023.

We are returning to the Bowden days where 7/8 wins is all we get and we’re getting there very quickly. This is a 6-6/7-5 team and next year will be the same and the year after and the year after that unless he starts using all the resources available to him to acquire talent and he needs to clean out the coaching staff.

Only 2 assistants… Reed and Eason should be retained. Everybody else should be gone. Hard to tell with Riley bc he’s not being allowed to call the plays or have the assistants he wants.

The basic problem is that no one believed Dabo in the past when he said it was hard to win. Clemson has caught a lot of breaks in the past and many of our wins came from those breaks. This team has seemed to be snake bit. Shipley has generally been sure handed, but he fumbled the ball, not Dabo. That 2 TD turn-around can kill a team, but Clemson hung on in a hostile environment. And Klubnik is not stupid. I do not know what he saw, but it looked to him as though Miami had blown up the play. There are many things this team will not do, but it is still a good team and the potential for being a great team next year is there. These next five games will test our character, and I believe the character of this team is good. Go Tigers!

Anytime something bad happens he brings up the past or says something like “this is probably the hardest working teams we’ve had since I’ve been here”. Then proceeds to say something about how we’ve won this and that and it hasn’t been done before. This team hasn’t won anything, 2019 wins don’t win this years games.

The amount of whinning in this room.

Oct 24, 2023, 1:11 PM

Is both annoying, funny, and sad all at the same time. I hate reading the nonsense in the commments but it’s like a bad fart you have to smell. Are there things the coaching staff need to be accountable for, and things that could absolutely be doing better……yes! Are things as bad as all of you say? Resounding no! We have one bad year out of a decade and y’all lose your freaking minds! Again, there are some legitimate concerns…… but the way you guys whine about it is ridiculous. Sound like a bunch of spoiled rotten brats that didn’t get a pony for their 12th birthday. I don’t normally comment because I have more important, pressing things in my life than to speak on a subject I know nothing about to people that know less than I do. However, a lot of you need to take a good hard look in the mirror, and also get some hobbies. it’s honestly embarrassing that we have fans that are this entitled and or unappreciative. The proverbial what have you done for me lately crowd. Sit down shut up and To quote South Carolina fans….. There’s always next year!

I think what most people want is an honest discussion and ownership from the Head Coach. He refuses to have either. I think that leads to the "whining in the room" syndrome. Just my $0.02.

Listen, I get it! The rah rah gets old when the results on the field are subpar. Having said that Dabo is who he is and has always been that way. He told us who he was many years ago. He can’t and won’t change, but it’s been a pretty good decade and a half for Clemson football. I think he’s earned a little more leeway than people want to give him right now. Frustrating as it is

I believe I remember an offensive coordinator saying last season, "DJ ran his @$$ off out there."

This is the same statement.

"We're working hard."
"We're doing our best."
"We're giving 110%."

So if the amount of effort is not the problem, we have to pin it on something else.
1. We're not fast enough.
2. We're not physically strong enough.
3. We're not mentally strong enough.
4. We're not smart enough to execute.
5. We're all working on our own individual game plans.
6. We're not getting direction in practice.
7. We're not getting coached in-game.

Pick a number, or a combo.

Don't work harder, work smarter. There is a breaking point where working harder just makes the problem worse.

Dabo needs to Leave the coordinators alone, let them do their jobs and Scott has come home and said he would be happy to help in any way the AD ask of him basically, put him upstairs to have another set of eyes help Riley!!

It's not how hard you work but what you learn from that hard work and right now we have not learned to hang on to a stinking pig skin!
