It's been fun, and I know a lot of you....

Dec 31, 2022, 9:07 AM

...haven't agreed with my criticisms of Dabo, DJ and the program's recent trajectory. That's fine. You won't see those posts very often from here. I'm cutting back and will spending more doing other things. Playing with old cars, building a new garage, enjoying my family and spending more time at the beach. It has been really good ride up until the last couple years. Got to go see the Tigers make Alabama sweat in the desert and then win it all in Tampa. Just kind of sad to see the current trajectory of the program. Clemson could have become a true "blue-blood" program had we continued to build on that glorious night in San Jose that now seems like 10 years ago. But instead we let complacency, hubris, ego and stubbornness cap the rise of the program too soon. Now Clemson will likely flounder in the top 15-20 with a diminishing brand as the ACC improves around us and we continue with the "best friends is the standard" coaching staff approach. Good, but not good enough for me to continue to invest the same level of time and funds. The good news for someone here is there should now be a couple seats in the lower level near the 35 on the Clemson side opening up as I will be cutting back.

I already feel better knowing I won't be letting Clemson football control my calendar and emotions as much as it has over the last 20 years. And thanks Dabo for the two NC's. Those will always be special to me and my family. Just wish you could have kept the fire and adapted as a coach so we could have enjoyed a few more. Regardless, Happy New Year!

Sure hope that the team doesn’t QUIT on Us, I’m betting they will get better sooner than later. Clemson never GIVES UP.!

Unless Dabo makes major changes, we are cycling out. It can be nasty how soon it happens. Without us being able to compete in NIL money, if we let the brand get damaged, you will see recruiting fall off a cliff.

YOu sound like me. Between portal and NIL I'm losing interest. I watched much less college ball this year than in the past. I still watch Clemson but few other games now and almost no NFL.

I agree with you in that the nil and the portal has made me lose interested in the game. I watched or attended all CU games this year but I can't remember right now watching any other game. I still think the rich schools will dominate in the years to come and we will be fighting with the gamecocks, duke, and the Wakes of the world to play meaningful games.

Speedracer, your handle has me curious. Are you headed down to Amelia Island in March for the concourse? I'll be there. Also going out Laguna Seca for the Rennsport Reunion in late September. That's a tough ticket now. Sold out in a few days. Send me a t-mail if you are.

LOL, I was paying IPTAY and buying 6 seats while living in California in the late 90's. But whatever makes you feel better sport. ;)

“All In” is difficult when it appears the coach; by his QB decisions, Coordinator hires and stubbornness to adapt, appears not to be. Good luck and hopefully better times are ahead.

I’ve been an IPTAY & season ticket holder since I graduated in 1989. My parking and seat always get better when the fair weather fans leave. All I can say is a big “THANK YOU”.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why do you think the future is bright?

Dec 31, 2022, 9:34 AM

Wanting it to be so isn’t enough.

There are some concerning trends in our program. If they aren’t addressed, we will continue being left out of the playoffs.

Amen. You are spot on. Never ever apologize for demanding excellence, which, in this instance, is winning.

Now, with the NIL I didn't watch a single gameday this yr except maybe the last 15min on 2-3 of them. But then I didn't watch college ball all day like I used too. I might watch parts of games leading up to a Clemson game or watch a Coot game.

But the enjoyment of College ball has taken a giant step backwards for me. And as weird as this sounds, the fire that Dabo had was so infectious that I had non-football family friends watching games but Dabo has put pride before winning with staff, playcalling and people on the field to the point I feel a little cheated the last couple yrs in my investment into Clemson football. That was hard to say right there!

If I saw the fire come back to Dabo, I would be all in again immediately! If we coach and act like a 1pt loss to Coots is OK when we had a 17pt lead in the 2nd half, then I guess it's ok for me invest part of my time and not 100% like I was in the past!?

This has nothing to do with quitting but the realization you can’t fix the situation and the person that can will not. In this day of football there are opportunities tha didn’t exist just 5 years ago.
