Brad Brownell "comfortable" he will be retained at season's end
Clemson’s 17-15 season earned the Tigers a No. 2 in the National Invitational Tournament brackets that were announced Sunday afternoon. It wasn’t what head coach Brad Brownell wanted, it wasn’t what the players wanted, and it wasn’t what the fans wanted but head coach Brad Brownell told TigerNet Monday that the program is on solid footing. Yep you seem to be struggling with the truth that he is a lame duck coach who is now finishing up his 6th season in a row not in the NCAAT.

Texas went 11-22 (4-14) and they do not get to do anything in the post-season.
There is a sick program, we are fine, you people need to OD on some chill pills.

If you call mediocrity fine , then Brownell is your man. Most Tiger fans hate mediocrity. Ask Tommy Bowden. This is a stagnant program. It won't be this year but Brownell will be gone if he believes that 17 wins or less a year is good enough to keep his job.

If 17 wins and an NIT is all we can expect, why did we just spend 60million on the facility. We have been fed mediocrity so long in men's and women's BB that we accept it . Close is not good enough after 6 years on the men's side, and a 10 game improvement on the women's side is still another losing season!

You do know that the new facilities aren't supposed to make us instantly good, right?
Mar 13, 2017, 7:47 PM
|
|
Their main impact will be with recruiting, and the 2018 class will be the first who has actually seen the facilities in person. The 2017 class got to see the drawings, and it is Brad's best class.

I didn't say you said it..I was saying "we" as a fan base. There is that possibility, but there is an equal possibility that we get our basketball version of Dabo.

My response was to Tiger Michael, I generally would agree we could get our basketball version of Dabo. However, with our tradition in basketball I would say the odds favor the status quo not changing or regressing when it comes to this.
FWIW I am of the opinion he gets one more year, he is bringing in a solid recruiting class (probably his best) and we will also be able to see if that uptick continues as we see the full effect of the renovations, and I also feel the core we bring back next year will be stronger (Mitchell, Reed, Thomas) and we can build around that. Again, just looking at it level headed and my opinion.

Lost to Va Tech twice by one point ... Va Tech in! - CU out!

Yes to be sure, close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades ... BUT we were literally that close to having Va Tech's spot in The Dance with them heading for the NIT.
We lost 11 games by six points or less.
We were so very close to a great season.
But sadly, we are NOT tossing horseshoes nor hand grenades.

We agree. We didn't accept mediocrity in football with Bowden. Now we are national champs under Dabo. We got tired of Leggetts excuses. Monte Lee is such a refreshing change. Why can't some fans see Brownell is the same as Bowden or Leggett?

in your conference over 6 years. Your highest finish is 4th, with Purnell's players. Since then, your highest finish is 6th. This year, you finished 12th. That is not a good place. You have gone 6 years without an invite to the NCAA. You are 9-26 over the last 3 years in games decided by 6 points or less, including a whole bunch this year. That is not a good place.

at this point. Everyone, including recruits, knows that his job is in jeopardy. For a man that's really struggled recruiting, having an uncertain job status is only going to make that more difficult. Giving him one more year isn't likely to help a great deal unless he vastly outperforms expectations next season. More likely we are going to be in a very similar situation again this time next year with D Rad facing a very similar decision. I think the buyout drops 500k next year to 3 mil but his salary escalates about 100k so the cost to cut ties with Brownell isn't significantly less a year from now. Unless we are just satisfied with this level of performance it doesn't really make a lot of sense to keep him around.
The other issue is that even if he has a bounce back season next year he will be getting to that point with 1-2 years left on his deal where coaches typically get extensions. This is obviously all theoretical, but if he were to have a "good" season next year there's going to be a really difficult decision for D Rad where there's pressure to actually extend Brownell's contract again because it doesn't look good publicly when coaches contracts are running out. The situation could potentially get worse with some kind of fool's gold season next year that gets BB another extension and then the results return to what we've seen the last 5-6 years.

Let me add another possible situation. Somehow this team makes it to New York for the final four of the NIT. Would Drad give Brad another insane extension and buyout like he did a few years ago? I hope he has learned from his mistakes a few years ago and grants no extension to Brownell. I'm sure recruits have read or heard about the uncertainty of Brownells job. Adding one year won't change that uncertainty. Drad do the right thing . Make a change and get rid of this arrogant coach.

BBs description of the situation reminds me of Trump's describing the crowd at his inauguration. They are both delusional.

I hate when reporters ask that question.

There is no right answer. Fans get into a spiral of anger when coaches are on the hotseat.
Why can't people just have an opinion without getting so angry? It shows a total lack of emotional maturity.

A supervisor told me many moons ago "never be comfortable" with your accomplishments. Take it to heart, Coach Brownell.

Drad should make it clear to Brownell that the buyout will not stop him from firing him.

I'd love to get paid for doing a bad job like Brownell. He can't lose. If he is fired,he gets millions. What a jerk!

It's slowly dying under Brownell. I hate that. OP for a time proved you can a big winner at Clemson. This mediocrity attitude is sickening. I'm glad we got football and baseball that are winners.

Look after all the griping,I know Drad is going to keep him. I can't imagine why because Brownell has done a bad job this season. The NIT game tomorrow night is meaningless except for practice time. Oakland has a decent team but Clemson should win the game. Its time this team lives up to its talent and go to New York. No ACC teams in the bracket! Brownell it's time to prove if you can coach in the big leagues. You should have stayed at UNCW.

Clemson will keep CBB and continue it's mediocrity because

DRad approved a big buyout to a coach that NO other college in America has tried to hire away from Clemson.
Dump CBB and hire Pat Kelsey of Winthrop before another smarter big school gets him first.

I'm sorry, I'm a low dollar IPTAY donor for the last 20 years, but seriously, who the FSCK DOES Brad Brownell think he FSCKING is?
Is he a Clemson Grad? Is he an IPTAY donor?
If he isn't either, then how in the BROWNHell is he comfortable in saying that he should be retained to continue his losing ways? to continue to suck like he has for the last 7 years?
Brownhell should be cast out upon the Shyat heap of smelly history of crap coaches.
If we don't fire him now, we'll just donate more to IPTAY and regret it next year for the same crap result.
Right Dan Radikovich?

CBB is "comfortable" going 17-15. You suck as a coach if you're content with that record and are there just for huge paydays at that point. Brownell needs to go.
