So, we take the elevator down from the upper deck

after the football game. We are in our late 50s- early 70s. It makes it easier on legs/knees.
Anyway ... I had an opened water bottle about half full but with the lid on that I was carrying with me while exiting the stadium. I have done this dozens of times in the past. Got on the elevator and the lovely, young attendant asked us if we were headed to Ground Level. We said yes, and chit-chatted with her until the elevator stopped at Level 2 to allow more riders to embark. The elevator was then full. Right as the door was closing, the Level 2 Elevator Guard loudly stated that I could not have an opened water bottle on the elevator. I looked at them, showed the bottle to them, and said, "I bought this here in the stadium. The cap is on tightly."
"NO! You can't have an opened water bottle on the elevator!" I handed it to them with an emphatic, "Here!"
The doors closed and EVERY person in the elevator stated that was an absolutely stupid policy. The attendant stated she was informed to not allow open alcohol bottles/drinks, but not opened water bottles.
Can anyone give me insight why a opened bottle of water with the lid on is a menace on an elevator?

Some of these rent-a-cops get on a power trip real easily. You should have told him it wasn't water, it was vodka and turned it up and drank it really fast.

That is stupid. Went to a Liberty game and you can take the elevator down from the club levels and get food and drinks from the lower level to take back up. Hella better food offerings than DV too. As long as you get your hand stamped by the elevator attendants.
