I don't care if UGA and Bama are doing it. I don't care. I want Clemson to keep it's values. Let's go with recruiting and weather this storm of insanity.
Continue to accumulate the best assistant coaches who prefer the way we do things, lean on solid recruiting, punch above our weight as hard as we can until the next major shift. As long as Dabo continues to cull dead weight with coaching and snatching elite hires to replace them we will make it through this madness without participating in this disgusting behavior.
Screw it. I'm not willing to support debasing ourselves and the game the same way other programs are. We can beat FSU regardless of their revolving door transfer mercenaries. I'm All In.

We are not trying to develop coaches. We benefitted greatly from his system.

We harvested as much from him as he did from us.
That's different than recruiting a kid and developing him for two years and then he leaves and all that development benefits a higher bidder.

And not Venables. And not Eason or Rumph or Luke.
My biggest criticism of Dabo was that he didn't go out and get established coaches. I was pretty critical this year about exactly that. He took a big step in the right direction the last couple years.
I know he's open to getting transfers.... but we are not going to pay people to skip in line at Clemson. And it's something awesome to pull for to work.

If we maintain a culture that truthful about building young men and offering a program where they can grow into NFL players, by not pulling players from the portal, we can keep a lot more than most programs.

Transfer/NIL cash grab is not a sustainable path to success unless you have a Texas/UGA budget.
We can be successful without debasing ourselves and chasing after this terrible trend.
People who panic and follow usually regret it later.

Some coaches are saying a top QB in the portal costs you $1 million+. Wide receivers are $500k and up. The Florida QB was promised $13 million from a collective but didn’t get it so he’s bolting. That’s over $3 million per year! I have no clue how much NIL Clemson has to hand out but saw it speculated at $3.5 to 6 million total? I don’t think we have the money to buy top portal talent, and if we did then we have to match for retaining our players, else you have big issues. Portal and NIL and the ensuing greed are vicious monsters. I predict it’s going to eat up a bunch of coaches and programs and tarnish reputations.

Stop using Colorado as an example of failed portal. The players they got from portal were avg at best.
Dabo needs to use it some. But he refuses to and is getting left behind due to it.
We can be a good top 20 maybe 15 program as is. But we will never crack the top 5 without using it some.

FSU used the portal and almost got to the playoffs. If they have Travis they are a top 4 team.
We are not unable to use the portal. And yes we don’t have to use it to the extent of uga. But hell use it some instead of bringing in new hs players and walk on every year. It’s just dumb.

On December 18, the soldiers of the 101st were completely surrounded in the town of Bastogne. They had little ammunition, barely any food, and most soldiers didn't even have cold-weather gear. Reinforcements were inbound, but it would take a week for Patton to arrive. Most of the senior leadership was elsewhere, leaving the task of holding ground entirely on the shoulders of the troops.
A night-time raid by the Germans on the Division Service Area took out almost the entirety of the 101st medical company. By the time of the morning of December 19, Americans were outnumbered five to one — and so the Germans moved in.
On paper, this was a completely uphill battle. The only thing Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe could do was have his men form a 360-degree perimeter around the 333rd Artillery Battalion's guns. Ultimately, this tightly controlled circle was the advantage they needed.
As the Germans prodded, trying to find a hole in Allied defenses, troops were be able to communicate with each other and quickly adjust, fortifying areas to meet their attackers. When the Germans pivoted and believed they'd found a new approach, the protected artillery guns opened fire. They'd regroup and try another approach, only to be met by American troops once again. This pattern continued on through the battle.
The fighting was intense but McAuliffe's defense held like a charm. On December 22, General von Lüttwitz, the German commander, gave the Americans their demands:
"There is only one possibility to save the encircled U.S.A. troops from total annihilation: that is the honorable surrender of the encircled town. In order to think it over a term of two hours will be granted beginning with the presentation of this note."
McAuliffe's response, in its entirety, was as follows:
"To the German Commander. NUTS! The American Commander."
The funniest part of this battle was that the Germans spent hours trying to decipher the hidden meaning behind McAuliffe's message. It was just a politely worded, "f*ck you."
This riled the Germans up even more. The Germans put all of their efforts into trying to wrest Bastogne from the 101st Airborne — at the expense of securing Antwerp. The American line was broken several times by panzers, but artillery shells would effectively pluck German armor out long enough for Allied infantrymen to retake their position.
On December 23, the skies finally opened up and the 101st started to bring in reinforcements and supplies via airdrop. It's not an understatement to say that they were only holding on by the skin of their teeth. American P-47 Thunderbolts came to the rescue, relieving artillery who'd almost entirely run out of ammo. The panzers, which had been painted green and brown for summertime, stuck out like a sore thumb against the snow. The narrow passageways the tanks had to travel meant the tanks couldn't escape the wrath of the Thunderbolts.
Throughout it all, the Battered ######## of Bastogne endued. Patton arrived on December 26th, finally evening the odds and breaking off the Ardennes Offensive. But all of that couldn't have been done without the ferocity of the Screaming Eagles holding down Bastogne.

but "screw it" is probably what we get to rest our laurels on.
Personally going this route I think we're on the verge of drying up unfortunately. And yes it will be better for our souls in the end but in today's world of "if you ain't buying you ain't trying" we will more than likely fall back significantly. AS long as we all know that in advance. In other words as long as we all expect to be outside the top 15 year in, year out then it should be pretty peaceful around here.
It seems that the excitement and rigors of recruiting has now shifted to the transfer portal shopping. Our advantage for years was DAbo's recruiting and his program building through recruiting. Now that is probably gone so I'm afraid we've lost our advantage.

to chase this (hopefully) fad anyway. It's an ugly thing to chase either way.
I'm happy being the best we can be with our own self-imposed limitations. We can't out-swindle UGA/Texas. But we can attract the best coaches by being unique. Luke quit UGA and came to us. How many prefer Goliath here anyway?

agree with most that poaching and tampering is the greater issue. WHen they released NIL without some rules that prevented it from becoming a recruiting tool, pandora's box was opened. It should have been tied to a minimum stay at the school or graduation, imo
