Why do I get the feeling now in football, that a recruit

committing to us is just putting his name on an "Offer Sheet"? As in, "OK, here I am, somebody front me a better NIL deal and I will move on?"
Such is the state of college recruiting now. It won't even be over AFTER they sign on the NLI dotted line, unless something changes. "Tampering" is about the worst kept secret around.

they've signed the NLI. It's getting/gotten to where a "verbal commitment" is meaning less and less.

It's a perfect way to approach it.

If we get a commit and he ultimately signs with us, it's due to our outstanding coaches who are great recruiters to compete with the big boys.
If we get a commit and he ultimately decommits, then it's not our coaches' fault, they are just up against NIL and we can't compete with the big boys.

Both of those statements can be true and not sarcastic as you intended.

Of course they can.

The tendency here to rationalize everything football-related does become a bit ridiculous though.
Contrast that with dozens of negative posts about our baseball hire, not even two minutes after the news hit. You can't make this stuff up.

Many posters on this site don't dig very deep into any topic before posting. Just come on here during a game and see the mental implosion. Pretty much why I've been a member forever but have 600 posts, most of the time I just move on.

You NEVER rationalize Brad's piss-poor list of accomplishments, huh?
Yet again, please stop being a hypocrite. Dabo has built 100x the program that Brad has, and barring a miracle turnaround we all know Brad is a lame duck.

At least our football program is considered…

by top recruits. When your only hope of fielding a team is to take players who didn’t make it where they originally committed, it’s hard to build a competitive program. Impossible really.

Over the years we have had very few decommits once a player makes a pledge to us so why would you expect it to be the norm now? It appears your feeling does not match the data so perhaps you need to adjust your feelings until proven wrong. Yes we did lose three guys but they appeared to be more tied to CBB than to Clemson.

You have that feeling because that's how it is. A commitment means nothing and even once they actually sign they can still be bought and leave at any time. Enjoy your amateur athletics!

My guess is that it's possible we will see the number of offers increase 10 - 20 percent to allow the coaches build strong relations with more recruits. This could put the Tigers in a better position to replace possible decommits.

It will be also be free agency every year. Players that have a good year can enter the portal with no downside. They can look for more NIL money or just go back to their same team with no penalty whatsoever. It’s a new game for sure.
