Concerning move to Big 12

Something I haven't seen mentioned is the effect on recruiting. I fear it could be adversely affected. Take a player like Stephone Anthony. Was part of the reason he came to Clemson because CU is close to his home in NC and also because 1 to 3 of our road games each year are played in NC, giving his family and friends additional opportunities to see him play? Going to road games in the Big 12 would be an economic hardship for most people. I don't buy the idea that the Big 12 will open fertile recruting area. I honestly don't think many players will want to go to a school 3 or 4 states away just because it's in the same conference as their local schools. I don't know the answer. I don't have a crystal ball. I just want what's best for Clemson.

If you look at a national map showing the population of the country you will see that the new ACC area after expansion will be the largest in the country. The Big XII area is the least populated and we'd have to travel more than halfway across the country to play all sports not just football.

Or are you just assuming that was one of the reasons for the sake of your argument? How many parents of players go to every game? And how is traveling to Texas prohibitive while going to Boston is not. And now Pitt and Syracuse are added in. Not to mention 7 home games/year and a bowl that would cancel each other out. And FSU is coming with and possibly a couple more ACC teams. This is the weakest argument there is

get the Big 12 to 16 teams will come from a group residing in more "eastern" areas than Austin Texas.
By 2014 most expect the Big 12 will be at 16 teams, with Clemson, FSU, Ga Tech, Miami, Louisville, Pitt, and ND being the group where the 6 additions will come from.

I do NOT want to be in the same conference as Louisville or Cincinatti. They have ZERO academic respect. They are NOT major universities. And they hire renegade coaches.

No, I haven't talked to Stephone. As I said, I was simply using him as an example. And I was not making an argument, I was just bringing up a point that concerns me.

No, I'm not a drama seeker at all. As I said, I love Clemson. I want the right decision to be made, although I don't know, or pretend to know, what that is. What is your position and why do you feel the way you do? Those pouring fuel on a smoldering fire are those demanding we must move to the Big 12.

What about the kids who grew up in Dallas/Houston and are rated 3-stars and get shunned by OU, Texas, etc. Wouldn't it be nice to say, hey come play at Clemson in the same conference and when we play in Austin or in Norman, you can show those coaches how good you really are...???

Wrong. There are PLENTY of recruits that get shunned by Texas and OU (and others like A&M, OSU, etc.) that don't go to TCU and TT. Some do, but not all. Some end up at Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, etc. Some go to places like Houston, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, etc. But you gotta think if playing in the Big 12 and getting shunned by OU/Tex, that some of those recruits will look at Clemson and FSU over a TT, Baylor, Kansas, et al.
Trust me, there are PLENTY of fish in that sea and we should seriously consider recruiting there. ESPECIALLY if we are mvoing to the Big 12.
