In Italy for the week repping Clemson, anyone got any spots in Florence or Rome to go to?

Lots of good places, best views are close to the river. Golden View in Ponte Vecchio had great food also.

If you like lasagña, Zaza Trattoria in Florence has the best in Italy. Make sure to ask your waiter to drizzle olive oil on top. You’ll thank them later!

Please be mindful of your surroundings and extra careful with purchases. You are surrounded by professional pick pockets. They will also slash a purse, backpack, or anything you are carrying. The taxi drivers will get creative with their fares. If you are traveling with someone, always count money in view of them. As careful as you may be, they are just that much better.

Rome and Florence are both great cities that you will enjoy. I apologize that I cannot remember the name of this restaurant in Rome. We got the recommendation from our hotel concierge. It was a local spot on a side street. The food was reasonable and incredible.

The red Hop on Hop off buses are good, especially on the first day in each city. Use VIATOR if you need a website to book a tour. Definitely do a guided tour of the Vatican and the Coliseum. Do a day trip to Tuscany. Have fun!

"The taxi drivers will get creative with their fares. If you are traveling with someone, always count money in view of them."

How do taxi drivers get creative with fares? ...take longer routes, add extra service fee?

When you say "if you're traveling with someone," does that mean a friend or just some stranger who jumped in a cab? Also do I count my money in front of them or do I count their money in front of them?

Italy does not have published taxi fees. The taxi drivers will add a bunch of crap at the end to adjust the fare. They are absolute pros.

If you have a travel companion(s), complete all payment transactions with your companions as witnesses. Try to never complete a transaction by yourself. They are pros at swapping euros and saying “you gave me a five” when you actually gave them a $20. Never order food by weight. An example would be seafood.

I love to travel and will not hesitate to go overseas. Italy is one country that you have to constantly think “how am I about to get ripped off.”

Carbonara

If you’ve never had proper carbonara (eggs, guanciale, cheese), get it there. I had some at Old Bear in Rome. It wasn’t on the menu but she said they could “whip something up” and it was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

Lions Fountain in Florence. A pub with a Clemson flag on the ceiling. Florence is one of the most magical places I've ever been. Enjoy.

Food is phenomenal. I'll try to find the restaurant but we got Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine Steak). It was to die for.
