Can someone explain the PJ Hall technical?

I was at the game, so I didn't have the benefit of hearing what TV or radio analysts were saying at the time. To me, it looked like PJ secured a either a rebound or a pass that came to him, can't remember which, and was simply holding the ball. The FSU player got up in his space trying to play physical defense, which is fine, and expected given the situation. But then the Florida State player shoved PJ in the back and even appeared to grab his jersey on the way down, causing PJ to fall to the floor. PJ did not retaliate, and it didn't appear on replay that PJ had done anything to provoke this. I am therefore baffled by the decisions to #1 give Hall a double technical (because what did he do?) and #2 not give more than a common foul to the FSU defender, who appeared to commit an obviously flagrant shove that wasn't a basketball play at all. This isn't even meant to be a homer rant, I'm genuinely confused what the logic was there. Can someone enlighten me?

for some reason a slight chicken wing by PJ when fould was deem the equivalent of being shoved to the flor by the FSU guy. considering he haqd been clocked in the face about 3 times during the game aI thought the half past FSU-er got off light

PJ did swing his elbow ever-so-slighlty into the FSU guy, which what prompted the shove
i think the refs called the elbow a dead-ball foul/contact while the ball is dead
the call was a double technical - both players got T'd up
and that was PJ's 5th, so Wiggins shot the FTs

Never should've been a tech on Hall and the review of goaltending that took points away from clemson was bogus. A goaltend cannot be reviewed in college basketball unless under 2 minute mark unless I'm mistaken.

Thanks for explanation. Don’t think PJ deserved foul. FSU player showed thug mentality and should have been tossed and suspended for next game. If I was PJ and I was given the technical when got up the FSU player would e going down.🤛👊
I am not encouraging violence but there are times when someone needs their a$$ kicked.

The technical on PJ wasn’t called until the play was reviewed. He got up smiling and walked away because he thought he had gotten away with one and the second guy got caught, which is pretty common. I don’t think he deserved a T either but he did pin the guys arm with his and then push him back with his elbow. It was really more of a push with the elbow than the elbow being “thrown”, but regardless, it was the reason the FSU player pushed him. So as much as we may not want to admit it, it was the right call if any call was going to be made. I would have been ok with a common foul on FSU and no technicals. The guy didn’t really push PJ that hard. He sold it like you would when trying to get a charge called.

One of beat writers at the game posted about Hall’s reaction to a foul early in the game. PJ went to the bench but continued to the media’s work room nearby. Slammed the door shut, stayed in there about 10 secs then slammed the door again on his way back to the bench. So that kind of tells you about how he thought the game was being officiated. The chicken wing foul description was picked up by the mics near the scorer’s table when ref was clarifying the double tech so that’s exactly what they called. I thought it was BS. The FSU player fouled him up close while PJ was secure the ball and looking to pass. The push was the only thing that rose to a technical in my opinion.

Technicals were called on both players which offset, so no free throws for that. Wiggins replaced PJ who fouled out on the call. He shot PJ’s FT’s as a result of the original foul that led to the incident. Petty call on PJ I think, but hey, ACC refs always have and always will suck.
