Recruiting class

Dec 7, 2021, 10:22 AM

Does anyone know the scholarship numbers as of today and what the size of the 2022 class should be? I feel like it should be a big class or is that 2023?

It should be 30.

Won't be close.

I don't know what the final number is, but it DOES seem like

we have many more slots available than we have posted commitments so far. I don't recall that happening recently. Makes it more and more likely that The Portal will force Dabo into using it.

How many 3, 4, 5* portal persons that either failed, became dissatisfied, didn't pan-out, couldn't connect, flunked out, gave up, and sold-out would you have us go after? Is there a jewel out there? OF COURSE. But you have to glean out the nuggets from a deep, deep pile of doggie leave behinds. Takes time, takes patience, take resources.

I believe the original plan was the sign 17 to 20...

We currently have 13 committed. Based on the transfers, we need to take a full 28, but I'm not aware of that many 4 or 5-star prospects currently on Clemson's board.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

It was 17-20, but if T venables leaves that may become 18-21, but base on the number of transfers etc it seems like we would sign 22-26.

I love this thread

No one is asking do we take a new recruit just to fill numbers or do we give the scholarship to a deserving walk-on for his last year. That way we can use it for the 2023 class which may have better players available. I'm not saying 2023 is better than 2022, I don't know. I do know if we bring in a freshman Dabo will honor that scholarship for 4 years.

As for using the portal, until all of the players decide to stay or go, the needs are unknown and as many have posted most of the players in it are not that good (I saw it on the internet so it is true). I don't have the knowledge or skill to evaluate that statement fairly, but will leave it to the coaches to decide how to do it.

This is just another discussion by people without sufficient knowledge or information to be anything more than my opinion is better than your opinion.

End of rant

Re: Recruiting class

This will in all likelihood be one of those special years where we either "load Up" in areas of need, or we have about 10 3-stars who develop or leave in a year or two. Recruiting plans for 2022 class have been finished, for the most part, for months with only a couple of openings for ETN2, etc. Now at the end of the cycle, all the 4 and 5 stars are committed and Clemson suddenly has 14 openings. What does Dabo do? Go to the portal to get a 1 or 2-year player who is already a problem child somewhere else? Offer the scholarships to deserving Walk-ons which will immediately lower the overall talent Do you over-sign every year and let law enforcement and/or the portal move players around for you like some schools do (Bama, UGA, OSU)?

My take on this is: "Let Dabo handle it".........I trust the man to do what is best for Clemson.

@Morganthomas. "The Morgan Thomas Show" does a good job of keeping up with this. He says we have;

60 on scholarship
13 commits
12 additional scholarships available.

Obviously some position s are needed more than others.
