It really is ok to question some of the offensive decisions

Sep 30, 2012, 7:30 AM

Before the daggers come out, let me say that I am totally all in with the offense but just question a few things...

We seem to want to go for these "knock out" punches that more times than not are blowing up in our face. When we got the ball at mid field Chad calls a go route and Tajh throws into double coverage and gets picked off. I didn't like the call and execution.....I would have like to just jam it down BC's throat....

When Dabo went for the 4th and one on the 50 I was literally screaming at the TV to punt the ball. It made no sense to take such a gamble at mid field. The played they call had no chance. Dabo said in his comments something about being able to move the ball an inch.....not on that play with a power play up the middle. That isn't our style..we are suppose to spread the field and create space.

They did finally learn their lesson and started to grind the clock out and low and behold we started popping some big plays and could have easily scored again.

Again, just a little annoyed at some calls that kept us for winning bigger. It is of course easy to play Sunday morning QB when you are drinking coffee and watching the replay

The fourth and inches call was the right one to go for it. However I question having Hot Rod in the game instead of Ellington or even Howard. Hot Rod is not a short yardage guy.

my sentiments,exactly.

I respectfully Disagree on the 4th Down Call....

Last week, when we had a 14 point lead, FSU had a big play that got the crowd into the game and the teams fired up. We were on the road and BC was moving the ball......Kick it deep and make them drive the distance of the field...Now we got darn lucky we stopped then. Had BC scored and made it a one TD game it could have be dodgy....

Thought exact same thing. They

Will have meetings and see the smarter thing to do.

I don't have a problem with the trick play

Sep 30, 2012, 7:36 AM

Tajh just should not have thrown the ball. I did think that Dabo should have punted on 4th though.

Also just calling plays like that keeps the defense off balance, they can't just line up and stop the screens and short stuff because they know we are willing to take a chance deep. We just need to run the play right. If it isn't there, don't throw it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You disagree with going up the middle because we're a spread

Sep 30, 2012, 7:45 AM

it out team, but you agree with us "grinding the clock out"

Dabo has always wants to be a team that could pick up the 4th and 1. Although we've not been good at it, he is committed to it. Which is a good thing, because any championship team needs to be good at tackling and short yardage offense. We'll get there with more consistent recruiting.

I think we're building a championship caliber team. But his first year recruiting he was handcuffed by being an unknown, mid season, interim, no name coach. That is this years senior class.

You don't have to jam the middle to run the clock out...

Sep 30, 2012, 7:51 AM

If my choice of words bothers you I apologize. I meant that instead of snapping the ball every 15 seconds, maybe have a huddle, drink a cappuccino and use the entire play clock and run your offense.... Sorry if you interpreted the word "grind" for smash-mouth. I should have explained it better....:)

I'm still wondering about the short kick off to BC Their last possession. Kick it in the end zone and make them go 75 yards. With the way we can miss tackles, please don't give a team a chance to run around with the ball.

You mean to say I am not the only one who screams at the tv.
What was interesting is that I was screaming at two Tigers. One was screaming at Dabo for making that call and the other was to Tiger for missing a putt.(I kept turning to the Ryder Cup Because our offense was making me nerveous.I won't even comment on the "D").
I agree that it is ok to question the offense, especially if they are struggling a bit.

I'd also take the wildcat out of the playbook

Sep 30, 2012, 7:59 AM

With our offense it makes no sense to ever run a play where we only have two playmakers on the field for the defense to key on as opposed to the 4 or 5 we normally have. And certainly not on the second offensive play of the game. Not to mention we probably average about 2 yards for every wildcat play we've run in the last 8 years.

Good point..We don't run that very well at all***

I thought we should have run more play

Sep 30, 2012, 8:17 AM

action on first down, faking the run up the middle and throwing some short passes. It seemed like BC was sitting on run on 1st down. Also, it looked like we could have run wide more often. When we did, we were getting 5 yd per pop.

I don't really question going for it on fourth down and a foot, but I do question the play. Handing the ball off 5 yards deep in the backfield off tackle is ridiculous when you need a foot with a 215 lb quarterback. Sneak the durn ball.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

agree 100%. The Chad has brainfartitis at times.***

I strongly disagree about going for it on fourth down. First of all, your basically telling Venables and the defense we can't trust you...especially after they kicked up their game effort at BC. Secondly, you send in McDowell to run the ball over Ellington...who made that decision? This is a high school call, especially when up 14 points. You make BC go the distance & burn some clock. Truly a immature call here. Dabo is lucky the Defense bailed him out.

I have less of an issue with calling the trickeration 1st half pass...however the pass was never open and Tajh should have thrown the ball away or hit a check down reciever instead of forcing the ball...this was a revisit back to Tahj of last year.

In the end, they played better on D than expected and fairly good on offense depsite missing Sammy. This proves Venables is making some headway and Chad's got a system in place where numerous playmakers are available.
