Cornell Powell is gonna leave the Clemson record books in his dust.
Y'all can say what you want, one sentence retorts don't bother me one bit, & if you post enough I'll just go freestyle rap or make fun of you.

Fwiw I really like him too. I think he is an immediate impact guy. Cain is my favorite receiver on the roster but I think Powell will be the next once he's on campus. I'll hold off on the hyperbole though.

I can't believe I'm a grown man and I'm drooling thinking about all this wide receiver talent we are blessed to have.

it is truly sick...on the 2011 level, but team is better

In 2011 we had some impressive pieces on O, especially the QB, WR, and RB spots. We were pretty durn stocked at TE too between Dwayne Allen and Brandon Ford.
In 2016, as much as I love Tajh Boyd and think he got a bit of a raw deal in the NFL - they really should have developed him - Watson is an entirely different animal at QB. Boyd could kill you with his feet and he had an epic deep ball, or he'd dump it short to his playmakers, but he was not a good intermediate-range thrower.
Watson can kill you any which way...and he's got a group probably within an inch as good as that crew that had Nuk Hopkins, Sammy Watkins, Martavis Bryant, Charone Peake, Adam Humphries, and Jaron Brown...all of whom now play Sundays. Now we're rolling out Artavis Scott, Mike Williams, Hunter Renfrow, Deon Cain, Ray Ray McCloud, Trevion Thompson. Which looks awfully durn similar.
Is Leggett as good as Allen? Dunno. Close. Is Wayne Gallman as good as Andre Ellington? Dunno. Real close there, too.
So in terms of skill it's pretty much a push.
What really makes the difference is the OL. Our 2011 group was best described as "functional". Our 2016 group, in comparison, is really, really strong, is loaded with 330+ pound monsters in the interior, and almost-certain future Sunday guys at tackle. There also seems to be a lot more sync between the run-blocking scheme and the offense; it was clunky at times under Chad Morris...it's kind of an open secret he and Robbie Caldwell were never really on the same page. Add in the fact that the O is now helmed by everybody's consensus #1 QB in the country, and we were very good in 2011...we are far, far better and more balanced across the board in 2016.
Good times.

I am excited to see this young man get his chance. No one denies that this kid can be a potential star for Clemson. So far, he is just unproven on the college level. Sounds to me that he is ready to put in the work. I like his confidence. Go Tigers!!

I wish i could say theyll make the field this season but

I think redshirting is the best option for both powell & overton. Theres just too many cooks in the kitchen right now for them to get adequate playing time that they deserve. Learning the playbook for a year would benefit them greatly.

No chance on the redshirt of both are healthy. Dabo is the only cook in the kitchen. No chance either stays all 5 years if healthy. Might as well use them while we have them, otherwise they will be gone before you know it.

I like to think of Overton pushing Cain and Williams and Powell pushing Scott and McCloud... and Powell and Feaster competing for punt returner.... and ko returns.
These guys are coming in prepared to play and to work hard.... I think neither Overton nor Powell will redshirt unless injured.

If any freshmen comes in and is better than the guy in front of him, HE WILL PLAY! Dabo has learned from his Stoudt loyalty days, he's putting the best on the field.
College football is completely different these days. These kids are physically mature and very smart. There's no need to waste a year in a red shirt when they are most likely leaving early for the NFL.
I've never seen a fan base critical of their own player and getting mad at someone for saying they are going to be great. Unproven or not, I guarantee you Cornell Powell is coming to get on the field early.
Powell plays early, Overton and Chase redshirt IMO.

My thoughts exactly at this point NFLU
Although I could see Overton being ready midway through the season. He just needs intense strength training for about 3 months, especially upper body strength, but I'm not counting him out.
Not saying you are either.
He brings an element to our offense that is better than even Mike Williams. He can go get the ball at a higher point than anyone on our team, and he has very quick feet for a guy his size.
Overton's ceiling is scary because he's relatively strong for a skinny guy, but he will take they biggest leap imo because I think he's less developed than Powell or Chase at this point.
& you're right about Dabo learning his lesson. The guy has been put in pressure situations his whole life & has learned to be mindful of what works & only stubborn when he needs to be. He has a track record of adjusting & adapting to succeed & it always helps to have Gene Freakin Stallings as you mentor to go to for advice.
He's building a ####### MONSTER.
Go Tigers!

They're not staying 5 years, so that makes no sense. Even

if they only play sparingly and on special teams, that's better than redshirting them with zero on field contributions and experience and having them leave after 3 or 4 years.

These guys are going to play this year, even if it's mop up duty. With the talent we recruit, they'll be gone in 3 years. It's best to get their feet wet this year to be prepared for a breakout year next season.
Mop up duty and growing with in game experience for a year is more beneficial than a redshirt year with no in game experience. Either way there's only 2 years left. The first year is most critical.

Personally..... I think he'll be a good receiver, but I don't think he's fast enough to do returns in college.

Not sure if you're kidding
Faster than Justin Miller allday, and smoked all the athletes at the shrine bowl.
Will be one of the best return men in college football as a freshman, might even run one back against Auburn...
but hey, you are entitled to your opinion. I ain't mad at YA.
Got you on the list tho

I don't care if he has 4.1 speed, unless he gets blocking, he isn't running anything back.

I look forward to seeing this young man suit up for us with all of his talents. I'm actually a bit suprised he's doing a 1.5 mile. Would have figured the S&C would want him doing like 3-5. Who woulda thunk it?
