It's been proven a fabrication, Vance has basically admitted he made it up, and no one here has been able to produce one credible official report of any incident of it happening in Springfield, OH. No arrests. No police reports. Nothing.
But some of you gleefully ran to the lie because Trump said it was true, and it was fueled by pure hatred for immigrants and racism. If he had said the Irish were doing it, y'all would have sat on your thumbs.
Speaking of sitting on thumbs, when this absurdity of a claim surfaced and Trump embarrassed himself during the debate with the eating cats and dogs line, josephg® made a phenomenal post with a laundry list of notable Haitians who have made great contributions to America. Among them, our own Mackenzie Alexander, who doesn't get enough credit for our trips to the Natty in 2015 and 16.
And what did y'all do? Silence. Someone who WASN'T driven by hatred and racism would have responded to that with something like, "Yeah, you're right, there are some great Haitians who have done a lot here in America. There's just several who are also causing problems and we may need to assess that. But it's case by case."
But nope, for y'all, it's just all one big brush for them. Dark skinned immigrants bad! Eat pets! It's da culture!
When challenged to provide evidence, what do we get? Links to social media lies or, my favorite response here from idiots who make wild claims without proof, "Go look it up yourself!"
There are some who have grown silent about it because now they realize how outrageous it was; they've wisely bowed out of their previous regurgitation of anything Trump with them. Others know it's a lie and keep pushing the lie because admitting otherwise would be admitting they were wrong, and Lawd knows they ain't man enough to do that. And then there are some who fell for it and don't know how to handle the fact that they're so easily duped by Trump. Perhaps they'll grasp and claim something new and outrageous about immigrants, like how they cause car accidents.
It's been probably the most embarrassing moment for the Trump campaign this year, and it's equally embarrassing for those who have proven they will truly believe any ounce of bull #### that comes out of Fat Orange Man's mouth. But what still lies there, and even more embarrassing for our alma mater, is the rampant racial hatred towards those people--hatred so deep they'll believe the most asinine lie about them.
Some of y'all ain't gonna be happy until all the immigrants are in concentration camps and you know it.

I have said that that comment was ridiculous. That doesn’t take away from the fact that 20,000 Haitians were brought to Springfield, received asylum status, and are now getting government benefits aka free money.
Trump should’ve never said that stupid #### and focused on the fact that our current administration is putting illegal immigrants and “asylum seekers” before its own citizens.

You're right...and that's what's lost in this is that Trump could have just pointed out the facts and been so much more productive politically. He just doesn't seem to be able to do that, which is one aspect of what makes him so dangerous.

The main issue is Springfields population is only 58,000. An influx of 20,000 people at one time has put a huge strain on the city, law enforcement, hospitals, schools, etc. That on top of spending taxpayers money on housing and food equals trouble.
Trump continues to stick his foot in his mouth. Idk who is helping him with his debate prep but it ain’t working. I thought Tulsi was supposed to help. She failed, lol.

I’m sure some are taxpayers. They have been receiving free money just like the other millions of immigrants. They have the infamous money cards too. They receive government benefits far easier than American citizens. I don’t have a problem with helping true asylum seekers. The thing is our own citizens have enough financial strain right now. Let’s help Americans before giving handouts to migrants.

Do you have any numbers as to how much assistance they get?
In 2019, TPS recipients paid 4.6 billion in Federal, state, and local taxes. That's not including any sales taxes that they paid. They also spent an additional 1.5 billion on mortgage payments and 2.8 billion in rent.

Ok, brought there was the wrong term. They moved there because word of mouth reached them that there were jobs. Still, there has to be a safeguard up to stop the influx of 20,000 asylum seekers to a small city of 58,000.
It’s well documented that the city is heavily struggling with that influx. Schools, hospitals, and law enforcement weren’t prepared for the population to suddenly increase by 30%. The AP has reported as much.

They’re WORKING. Employers recruited them to come to Springfield because there was a labor shortage; they had more jobs available than people to fill them.
Of course, if unemployed people in various economically depressed red states were willing to relocate for work - instead of sitting in their rundown hometowns collecting welfare, whining and abusing opioids - maybe employers wouldn’t have to recruit from Haiti.

The person who made this thing go public, a friend of hers, has now apologized for it and said she never meant all this hate towards immigrants to emerge.
There have been no other reports.

It is a really stupid and cynical move on Vance's part to start this nonsense and for Trump to parrot it. It is a totally unforced error and takes away from the overall issues related to illegal immigration as we are still talking about a non problem and not a real issue.
It was reprehensible of Trump-Vance to do this and is indefensible, however, I am much more concerned that Tim Walz apparently feels hate speech, lies and disinformation are not covered by the First Amendment.
I don't like it when individuals with high IQs at universities are screaming antisemitic chants and some openly supporting Hamas, a group filled with hate. However, I 100% support their right to do so. To me this is an absolute disqualifier for Coach Tim to be a heart be away from the presidency.
Don't screw with the First Amendment.
However, Trump-Vance should apologize for their remarks.They won't.

There SHOULD be limitations on free speech, and there are! You can’t defame someone. You can’t call in bomb threats. Speech that impacts the freedom of others or THEIR rights is not and should not be protected. There are degrees of nuance between having opinions and deliberately spreading lies. I’m not saying I agree or disagree with anything Tim Walz has said, and I’m not saying I have the answers, but I do think we don’t need to accept that there cannot be any limitations to speech, or limitations to ownership of weapons.
Only the Sith deal in absolutes.

Biden’s attempt to create a Disinformation Governance Board thankfully was thwarted.
Hurtful speech and vile lying speech should be condemned, but not outlawed.
That’s my opinion and the longstanding opinion of SCOTUS.

and from a political perspective, the idea is to keep the focus away from how creepy Vance is, and the fact that Trump has no policy agenda other than to pardon himself. The problem is that it's backfiring, because every time they continue to lie about it, it makes them look like a couple of clowns to the majority of people in this country who know that this is absolute nonsense.
I also believe Karl Rove said the Cats and Dogs comment at the Debate was the worst performance he has ever seen, paraphrasing, and likely lost Trump the bid as a result. The DNC should play that sound bite on an endless loop weeks before the election, over and over until people are sick of it.
