for my oldest son. He has suffered terribly from gastroparesis for years now, and today is undergoing some serious stomach surgery to try and help this. I pray that the surgeons hands will be guided by the Lord, and the surgery will be successful. This young man has had no quality of life for the last 15+ years now. Hopefully, today is the start of a better life for him.

Hope it went well. He get a stimulator? Pyloroplasty? What did they do for him? Gastroparesis is tough to treat.

they did surgery which I think is the one you named. The one they did is a fancy way of saying they tweaked the nerve that holds the bottom of the stomach closed, so that there is a small (hopefully) controlled leak into the intestine all the time.
He was very nauseous this morning before the surgery, and he upchucked once while I was with him in recovery AFTER the surgery. He also has a great amount of unexplained abdominal pain 24/7, which I can tell you from low back pain, enough pain alone will make you nauseous, even if you didn't HAVE gastroparesis. They are keeping him overnight for observation, which they say is their standard for this surgery.
Would you believe they are having to keep him in the PACU overnight, as they say every single bed in MUSC hospital has a patient in it? I continue to hope and pray the combination of the stimulator working again, and this stomach surgery, will alleviate this constant vomiting. He already lost eight teeth via dental surgery, because stomach acid literally dissolved most of the enamel away. That is how serious, and how long this problem has gone on.
I give a heartfelt thanks to everyone who lifted prayers today, I am a firm believer in the power of prayer. You may return to your regularly scheduled filthy animuleness now.

Yeah sounds like a pyloroplasty. Hope he gets some relief from it. MUSC in Charleston? Boarding in PACU happens all the time. Did Will Lancaster do his case? I think the world of him.

Rana Pullatt, great surgeon. Your son is in good hands. Check his wrist next time you see him, his watch collection is something else.
