Is the offensive plan regarding Morris...

To let him acclimate to Rileys system and then plug him in as OC when Riley takes a big time job in a year or two? If so I like!

I also see Richardson either getting an opportunity here or somewhere else in the near future. He was an offensive guru as a high school coach and has nothing but more years at Clemson soaking in knowledge from multiple OC’s.

Be nice to catch Coach V off the rebound as well. We would be set up for a long time.

I really don’t get the Richardson praise.. he’s never called plays in college let him go prove it somewhere else. Clemson doesn’t need to do a trial run with Richardson.. chad morris is a proven OC a proven play caller and nvm he’s been a head coach at a SEC school while Richardson’s only been a high school head coach.. nvm the media would kill Dabo if he hires Richardson as an inside hire with zero experience and it goes poorly at OC

Let's see; there have been a few offensive systems that "graduated up" in football! Meaning, they started their prominence in H.S. and made it's way to college and then the NFL.

Maybe not new concepts in the history of football; but new in how they get deployed(wildcat, spread, etc).

Kyle Richardson didn't just call plays in H.S. He had FBS QB's(Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Furman). Mason Rudolph was the Gatorade offensive player of the year his senior year. And, the system was clearly superior to what "MOST" other squads were running. But, you say, "that was high school right"? Well Gus Malzahn was h.s. coming out of Springdale h.s. in Arkansas. Chad Morris I believe was at Lake Travis before going to Tulsa ( for one year friend ) and then he came to Clemson!
Tajh Boyd still has records that haven't been eclipsed and we have had a couple of NFL QB's since then. All by using what was essentially a high school coaches system.

Well living close by NW High School it was not hard to take notice that the man was putting up some really good numbers in high school and ended up with a call from Dabo so read into that what you will. We all have to start somewhere and everyone at some point calls their first play be it high school, college or the pros.

On another note not really sure that Dabo cares what many outside the program thinks. Just a feeling I get. I may be wrong.

Agreed. I think Richardson would have been next if the streeter move had worked and he left to be a head coach somewhere

Also, he ran the air raid in highschool so he’s going to be way ahead on the learning curve

Wonder if Jeff loses his taste for the college football life when compared to raising his children. He is financially secure. Was a heck of a high school coach. If he gets the itch - be about a gazillion high schools who would hire him. Math major.

Personally, I don't get that as the "plan" so to speak. In some ways, I kind of look at this like Dabo's version of Nick Saban's "rehab a coach" program.

If you've noticed with Nick Saban, he rotates (or loses) coaches almost yearly. Coaches who've had success spend a year or two as an analyst or coach to basically get the brand association on their resume (and probably learn a thing or two from the big dog) to leverage it into another job. I mean, it works both ways too where the coaches who become analysts share their knowledge/experience to give the program some more juice.

That said, I could be totally wrong on this too and Dabo may fully intend on having Morris take over if he's still around after Riley finds the right opportunity...but I'm thinking Morris isn't gonna be around more than a year or two.

plan regarding Morris is to get him back into coaching

Jul 22, 2023, 11:30 AM

Think of it as a reboot. Analyst for a year or two then OC again at a decent program, then who knows…

If Garrett stays at Clemson for at least 3 years, he and his family will love Clemson so much, that it would have to be the perfect HC job to get Garrett and family to move away!!!

Also, with as fast as the Chad will pull up and leave, he will probably be gone before Garrett!!!

Spot on. Morris has always been restless. My guess, unless he has changed which seems unlikely, is he won’t be around long.

I think it bears mentioning that Morris has deep ties across the state of Texas. Texas is perhaps the most fertile recruiting state in the country along with Florida ( the Scott's) and California. We have only begun to see the results of our recruiting efforts here. If Morris were to allow us to gain an even greater foothold in that state his hiring will have been well worth it
