Is the Big 10 Really Big?

After Iowa's loss in the women's basketball national championship, it has been 8 years since the Big 10 won a national championship in one of the 3 major sports. The Big 10 has by far the worst power 5 conference national championship record. The following is a list of the last Big 10 national championships in the 3 major sports:

Football: Ohio State 2014
Softball: Michigan 2005
Men's Basketball: Michigan State 2000
Women's Basketball: Purdue 1999
Baseball: Minnesota 1964

They are big in the sense of student populations, number of alumni, and they have some very big stadiums and arenas. Not so much big on championships in the major sports.

to join the Big Ten when the ACC falls apart. SEC schools are IMO football factories and are not at the high academic levels of many Big Ten schools.

Women's Basketball as one of "3 major sports" in college. Not even close. There's Football, Men's Basketball, then several sports vying for third, and it kinda depends on geography. Baseball or Soccer for most folks, Ice Hockey up north, etc. WBB is on down the list somewhere....
