Is DJ the only pro player on the team?

Oct 4, 2021, 11:38 AM

Is he the only player on the team getting paid to play?
Would he still be getting that money if he wasn’t
A starting qb?
It’s ironic the first professional qb in tiger history may be one of the worst I can remember.
I know we are not supposed to criticize coaches making millions, so I guess I shouldn’t say anything about a player who only makes a couple of hundred thousand.

All of them are allowed to monetize their likeness. I am pretty sure Justyn Ross has done so with his twitter followers and such. Trenton Simpson has as well I think. I have not heard of any other players getting national deals like DJ's deal with Dr Pepper.

Bresee announced a national deal the week before last with some health food company.

The article listed players from all over the country who were signed by the same company.

I give this attempt a C- but I will try to answer your questions anyway.

No, we have numerous players with NIL deals and not all are starters.

Not sure about DJ specifically getting paid if he wasn't starting, but Ohio St has a backup QB with a 7 figure deal.

If getting money means he is a pro QB, then he certainly isn't the first Clemson "pro" QB in history. Do you think the probation in the 80s was for practicing too much or what?

Based on this post, you should probably say less about more so I agree with your inclination that you shouldn't comment on DJ's performance.

Your response gets an F, since we are handing out grades.

D-

You get that because your choice of "F" is one of the options (A,B,C,D,F) in the grading system, but your post lacked any real substance to improve its grade.

I missed the pro qb in the 80’s.
Can you enlighten me?
Please tell me who that was?
Borderline slander.

I’d be interested to know as well.

Maybe he’ll circle back with us on this one.

Clemson was turned in and placed on probation for impermissible benefits being given to players in the 80s.

Clemson wasn't doing anything different than what everyone else was doing, so there is no reason to pretend that it was a case of false accusations and an improper punishment (although the ACC adding to it was ridiculous).

I can't tell you specific dollar amounts or which players were given money, but are you under the impression that Clemson's QBs were somehow missed when the money was being passed out?

I have never considered this under the table payment of college players to mean they are professionals, but I'm not sure how it's any different than an NIL deal is now.

Please show me the ncaa accusations that players were paid.
Anyone.

Haven't been a Clemson "fan" very long have you?

Dude, they were getting paid.

Everyone was doing it.

Even the walk ons were getting $20 handshakes from fans after the games and a DB that has an interception might get a couple of hundred.

They weren't hustling out to the parking lots after the game for free beer.

Move on.

Cannot say I am a fan of the NIL. I believe it has had an effect on a lot of players this year.

I will say, it is WAY too early to start calling DJ "the worst" after 5 games. I tend to look at how DJ performed last year against ND and BC and see that as his potential. Keep in mind, all of the players he threw passes to in those games are now gone. DJ would be much more effective if he has Travis E. in the backfield with him this year.

Not saying DJ has been great, but I do believe he can be great. He needs all the other players on offense to do their jobs as well.

Maybe I jumped the gun on worst.
I just think that if we are paying players
(My definition of pro) we should expect more.

Criticism of coaching should have nothing to do with how much they are paid. That’s on the AD. Dabo doesn’t warrant the criticism he’s receiving after 5 games given that he’s, at least, the second best active head coach in college football. Our fall from the top 10 concluded what was arguably the 3rd greatest stretch by any team in the history of college football. All of his assistants and coordinators operate at his discretion. So criticizing their individual performances is ultimately a criticism of Dabo. He’s earned far more respect than is being demonstrated by many on this board.

and your opinion here is Exhibit A, clearly showing why there needs to be less entitlement in the world.
