There is always a bigger fish. The threats to drop IPTAY

Oct 24, 2021, 1:16 PM

membership (as though it would make a difference) reminds me of a story:

In the mid-1990's times got very hard for me. The Eagles announced they were coming to Clemson. The week before, I figured I could pick up some grocery money by helping with stage construction or security. I came over to Death Valley and learned the stage work was all Unionized. And, the security force had already been hired. But, the head security guy said I could hang around until shift change and if someone didn't show, I was hired. Someone didn't, and I was.

I was stationed at a gate in a temp fence at the top of the hill underneath the lighted Paw on the stands. One afternoon, this brown Ford LTD came flying through my gate without stopping. He drove over to the Paw and got out. I told him he couldn't be there and needed to leave. His reply was "Make me!". I radioed my supervisor. He and the concert promoter came over and asked (nicely) for the man to leave. He replied "I pay $500 a year to help build this stadium, I'll leave when I'm good and ready." The concert promoter replied "Well, I paid $50,000 to rent it for just this week and I say you are ready, or I'm calling the cops." The old man got in his car and drove away.

Some donations just mean more than others.

Stopping IPTAY contributions because a team is not playing well separates a good fan from a fair weather fan. Big difference in the two.

I agree to a point.

However, the only real way fans have a way to show their displeasure is with their feet/wallets.

Seeing empty stands and losses in revenue will pressure Dabo to make changes to his staff more than internet rants.

I am not one to take this approach, but it is more effective than anything else.

Just moaning and complaining is like people on Facebook complaining about censorship but not deleting their account.

Clemson has been in more CFP's other than Alabama.

We missed the 2014 CFP, but we have been in the CFPs from 2015-2020, six straight appearances.

So, if an fan/alum forfeits their tickets, another IPTAY

family will happily order those tickets if they are better than the tickets they currently receive.

IPTAY member who count ($$$) know long-term strategies

Oct 24, 2021, 2:11 PM

and don't freak out over short-term disappointments. IPTAY may lose some 2 digit donations, but they won't lose the 6+ digit donations.

what the he11 do you know about football?

Exactly. Most of the big ticket holders/donors are families

Oct 24, 2021, 3:34 PM

that have had tickets and donations to IPTAY for decades. Their donations are more about supporting Clemson, other than how many titles we win.

Agree but losing adds to a lot of factors

Oct 24, 2021, 2:37 PM

Corporate profits already down, most games on TV, ticket prices up, loss of tax deductions, aging population and uninvested youth. I think we’ve the peak - especially if we don’t get back to elite play.

Well we are playing like in the 90’s , but it’s common sense for a fan who has spent a ton of money to upgrade facilities and salaries would not want to continue to pay for a less then adequate product. This mentality that we are somehow required to pay top dollar for a bad product is absolute ignorance. This isn’t the lamecocks. Dabo knows where he is, he said it himself in his famous rant . You produce here. Or you end up elsewhere. Dabo has a lot on the line. He has a stadium to be named after him one day. A statue of him to be placed for all to see long after we are all dead. This is an epic fall. If we continue as is, we could loose to Louisville, wake forest and possibly FSU. And god forbid USUck. Fans protect Clemson university. And some have paid for what you see on campus. They have every right to demand returns on their investment.
GO TIGERS!!!!!

In many situations, the older folks have done the heavy lifting. Little help from millennials.
