My thoughts about Bama's homecoming "welcome"

Jan 12, 2017, 12:03 AM

I've watched the video of the Alabama team getting off their buses to an unenthusiastic welcome a couple of times now and it only makes me hurt for those guys.

On Monday night, the two best football teams in the country met on the field and, for over four hours, played like the BEST TWO TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY. At the last second, one team managed to outplay the other one and take home the victory. If any team ever deserved to hold their heads high after giving everything they had and coming up just a little short, it's the Alabama Crimson Tide. From what I could see, they were gracious and congratulatory to our players and coaches at a time when their hearts had to be broken.

And twelve of their fans showed up to welcome them home.

I hope and pray that Clemson fans never get so spoiled and entitled from winning that we treat one of our teams so shabbily at a time when they probably need our support more than if they had won the game. If this is how "SEC Glory" works, I want no part of it.

Listened to the Alabama press confernce after the game...

You could tell OJ Howard & J. Allen were extremely hurt from the loss of the game. But they answered the questions with class and dignity. I was impressed with these guys.

They deserved better than 12 fans.

More worthless bandwagon fans.

I completely agree with you. When DW4 was getting interviewed and got interrupted by the BAMA player to congratulate him I told my wife that was classy. other than a few not so gracious players the team showed class in their defeat. They deserved better

Alabama fans are as fickle as they come when things dont go their way.

Haven't heard anything about if there was a crowd to meet the plane at the airport or did they bus them to the game. Doesn't seem likely that would happen.

There fans are just spoiled.

And they react as such.

In defense of them

I think that was around the time there was an armed robbery/hostage situation on or around campus. May be wrong on timing, but if so I think that would have a significant impact on attendance

Something that makes the poor welcome even more curious

Jan 12, 2017, 8:37 AM

I want to make it clear that my comment is not a blanket condemnation of Alabama's fan base. In my business travels I encounter quite a few Alabama grads. To a person, they have been reasonable, knowledgeable and enthusiastic when talking about their team. Our football chats are always friendly and enjoyable. A couple of them even sent me gracious emails congratulating us for the win and complimenting our program.

I'm told there were impediments to getting to the football facility but the small turnout is still surprising based on my other experiences with their fan base.

I won't live to see our team treated this way.***

Agree, possibly the saddest thing about that whole game; those guys certainly deserved better than that!
