I don't think we were physically whipped like lots of you

Nov 25, 2012, 11:28 PM

guys seem to think. It's not like South Carolina ran the ball down our throats all night, or we couldn't run the ball on them. Instead they took advantage of our depleted secondary and threw the ball all over our defense. We have been a relatively healthy team this season, but losing Breeland, Robinson, Jenkins, and Williams all at the CB position really left us short-handed. We had to play with what should be our 4th and 5th guys all night, so it's not that surprising that we got torched by SC, just like NC State did last week. Our corners also had their hands on at least 4 of Thompson's passes. To only bring in one of those interceptions was another key factor to the game.

Offensively, the play-calling was very disappointing. I don't get why we didn't see the screens, outside sweeps with Watkins, and misdirection type plays. I'm very surprised we didn't see a single trick play. This should have been the biggest game of the season where we brought out all of the bells and whistles, and instead what Morris gave us was pretty vanilla.

Clowney had a field day against us because he knew he could just run straight up the field and rush the passer every play. We actually ran the ball well with Ellington and McDowell. Combined they had 18 carries for 119 yards, which is 6.6 yards per carry. If you compare that to SC's running backs, who combined for 88 yards on 28 carries (3.1 yards per carry), we actually had the better running game.

I don't think our team is nearly as bad as we looked last night. Clowney is a once in a lifetime type player for SC, and he took over the game. Morris and the offense did a terrible job of accounting for him, which is ultimately what cost us. With healthy CBs and a different game plan on offense, I am certain we could have beaten SC. It looks like we will get a chance to play another highly-regarded opponent in our bowl game, which should be a great opportunity for our players and coaches to redeem themselves.

After looking at some of the game tonight I agree

We had some really bad mojo going against us with the referees, the physical stuff SCAR was getting away with that Spurrier is a master at that played right into the refs plan on how to call the game and the way the ball bounced. If you look at their last scoring drive, they got two calls (4th and 11 and 3rd and 9) that went their way and it sucked the emotion and momentum out of our fans, coaches and players. Again, Spurrier has 35 years coaching at or above the college level and used it to perfection last night. We just have to get better on defense next year and after watching some of the second half again tonight I can see it happening. Remember the bogus false start call that negated an INT for our defense? That was total BS. I've never seen such bad luck in my life. Then the 2 PI calls on our defense to keep their last scoring drive alive and then the Clowney roughing the passer no call on Tajh's INT. Just bad, bad luck all night.

All terrible calls. The 3rd and 11 PI call, I can maybe see

Hall was maybe there a split-second early, but you don't expect to get that kind of call thrown against you at home.

The 4th down PI and roughing the passing calls were just horrible pieces of officiating. How on earth can you miss a defensive lineman taking his two arms and swinging near the head of the QB and even hitting him helmet to helmet after the ball was thrown? If we get that obvious call, we'd have the ball 1st and 10 at their 35, with probably the most accurate kicker in the nation from within 50 yards. You have to believe we get at least 3 points there, and maybe a TD. Our defense also gets a few more minutes of much needed rest.

Instead our exhausted D has to come out, down by 3, instead of tied or leading by 4, and it was obvious they were barely hanging on and even a bit deflated. That 3rd and 19 where Thompson runs for 20 was a perfect call against our defense, and the the final nail in the coffin.

This game wasn't at all like the last 3. They dominated us the last 3 years. This year, we lost, but we had our chances and were in the game until the last few minutes. We didn't play very well, but still, if a few plays go differently we could have won the game.

agreed.

last 2 years, we were manhandled. this year,we lost, and very well could have won the game. we played pretty tight, and it showed. we actually avg'd more yards per play then they did, we just couldn't get them off the field on 3rd down in the 2nd half. any body on this board knew the way to beat us was through the air, so did sos. the ref's were very much giving usuc the benefit of the doubt on any close calls, they were sec ref's,after all. we are getting there, we just need to get a little more help on both lines and in the defensive backfield, especially. brewer dropped 2 sure int's, which would have been huge.the usuc wr's were getting open all night, and we had no answer.

The reason we didn't see the Sammy screens, etc. was because he was getting the snot knocked out of him (and the other wides too)on every play wherever he lined up. I've said this for two years, but some people gloss over the critical fact that Sammy does not like contact, and does not show up against very quick, physical teams.

we got whipped - 4 straight years.
It starts and ends with the line play - they are just not ready, yet.
the ACC is so dang weak this year - we are where we s/b at this point
