Trump blames Zelensky

Trump says Russia’s recent attack was a “mistake”.
Asked about the attack earlier, Trump said it was "terrible" and that he had been told Russia had "made a mistake", but did not elaborate.
Then he blames Zelensky for starting war.
"You don't start a war against someone 20 times your size and then hope that people give you some missiles,"

You can generally guess with reasonable confidence what Trump's up to because he tends to telegraph his intentions a mile in advance.
Right now things in Ukraine are tied up because they're in the middle of rasputitsa, which translates to "the season of bad roads". Right now Ukraine is one giant mud bog because of their seasonal rains. But that ends in a couple weeks...and the Russians are duly gearing up for a new offensive.
When it happens, Donald will almost certainly do what he did last month in Kursk - which is to cut the American satellite intel to Ukraine at a critical juncture, allowing the Russians to move their troops around undetected and hit the Ukrainians at their weak points while they're blind.
Donald started blaming Zelenskyy the last time he did that too.

I'm semi-OK with coaxing the EU to step up a bit more militarily, but blaming Z

I don't think it's insanity, though. I think it's a bit simpler than that - I think Donald got himself tangled up with the oligarchs back in the '90's when they were looting Russia to the walls in the Great Soviet Fire Sale after the USSR collapsed and needed somewhere to park their ill-gotten gains, and he discovered nothing in this world is free. I think he also discovered, very much the hard way, that the old KGB had fifty different ways of getting their hooks into you.
Everything that has come out of his mouth regarding Russia has been half-arsed rationalization. So either the guy is just too simple and stupid to get out of bed feet-first in the morning, or realize, you know, Russia has spent the last eighty years trying to push America off its perch as the world's Alpha Dog and they maybe aren't our friends...or they got to him.
The kicker for me was Tulsi Gabbard. Anyone even remotely adjacent to the intel community will tell you Gabbard's a Russian asset, and even the GOP members on the House and Senate Intel committees would hide the identities of their informants from her when they were briefing Congress when she was in the House because they knew perfectly well that telling her something was tantamount to telling Putin.
And he just "happened" to make Gabbard his DNI, over the CIA, NSA, DIA, and 15 other intel services...despite the fact that she had never been a Republican and had never served as an intelligence officer in any capacity?
Sure. That's totally believable.
