Trip to Alabama "just what the doctor ordered" for Dabo Swinney
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Saturday for the Crimson Tide’s reunion of the 1992 national-championship team. Swinney was a wide receiver at Alabama in 1992, his third season on the team. After his playing career ended, Swinney spent eight seasons as an assistant coach for the Tide. He started coaching as an assistant at Clemson in 2003, before becoming the Tigers’ coach in 2009. Photo by Marvin Gentry / USATODAY Full Story » |

I would've stayed also. Can't believe all the negative comments about Dabo going back to see his coach and team mates. I would hope that in 25 years if last year's championship has a reunion, that all the players would come back to see each other regardless of which college or organization they're a part of. That's what being part of a team is all about.

Seriously? Shame? You’ve obviously never played any organized sports let alone on a college level. It’s nice to see someone with no idea what’s its like to be on a team leave an ignorant comment!

But, but, but ... if he didn't stay for the game

If he came back to Clemson as soon as the ceremony was over he didn't have time for his job interview.
That can't be right. I thought the only reason that ESPN gave us a Friday game and had Bama play on Saturday was so Alabama could hire Dabo away from us.
What am I missing here?

Uh-oh they did it. They lured Dabo back under the false pretense of celebrating the 1992 National Championship when in reality it was a ploy to get Dabo back to butter him up and sign him to a future contract for when Saban left. There it is right there in the heading, Dabo said it himself "Just What the Doctor Ordered". How could we be so blind to Alabama's evil ingeniousness? I heard Dabo has already put his house that they haven't even finish building yet up for sale. I also heard that the Bama officials passed out fliers game goers that stated to cheer loudly for Dabo when they personally called his name out on the PA. I also heard that immediately following his trip to Bama he got on the phone with Trevor Lawrence to let him know his intentions and to try to get him to flip to Bama so he may get to coach him there in the not so distant future. And this one is a hot take for you that Dabo personally lost that game to Syracuse so that he could prove how ungrateful Clemson fans were to the point that they questioned his coaching abilities giving him the out to leave Clemson without any questions. This is it boys and gals. Our run has officially crossed the finish line. No I am retiring to the bedroom to cry into my Ken Hatfield pillow sham.

I'm just glad Swinney didn't play for Cuse - the optics would look bad for those suspicious. No problem with him going to Alabama after loss - its just a shame.

Were there really people concerned or upset he went

or was that just internet chatter?
I really don't see the big deal. Had he gone to a Clemson Alumni event it would have been ok but not a Bama one? Had he played golf it would have been ok? Its not like he needs to be in the office 24/7, in fact thats what this staff prides themselves on. If you've got family obligations go for it and come back.
We got beat. It happens. One instance is an outlier. If the same problems go uncorrected and cause us to get beat again then we have a trend.

I wondered that too? I didn't hear anyone say he shouldn't go. Of course he should go to that. I love getting together with my old college buddies and it doesn't happen very often.

Good for him. So glad he got the opportunity.
As Dabo himself has said many times, life is about moments. It's clear this was a special one for him. Beyond reuniting with his team, Gene Stallings' gave Dabo his shot all those years ago as a walk on, and his health has recently deteriorated. This may have been his last opportunity to see the man. The reunion that took place will most certainly never come again.
Those who would call out Dabo for attending this following a loss have neither an incliing of how exceptional he is as a man or the faintest awareness of what it truely means to be ALL IN.

Sometimes we need a reset. All of us do; and it must be tough in that position.
Glad he got to see his coach. I'm sorry to hear his health is failing. He seems like a great guy. Only championship for them between Bryant and Saban. That is something
