Im in JC Penny the other day

Apr 18, 2013, 7:23 PM

getting a new suit case for my trip to Germany when I overhear this woman and the cashier talking. The woman said, "I would like to return these shirts." and the cashier is like, "well what didnt you like about them?" and to my amazement she said, "Well I bought them for my husband but he wont wear him because they're made in Vietnam, and he lost half his skull over there." I nearly pissed myself!

To see any humor in this

I don't think it was meant to be funny.

There are many people with scars (physical and otherwise) from that war. My high school graduating class was the last to have their draft number drawn, but they never had to serve. I still remember the nightly news with the body counts as the lead story every night.

I understand his feelings.

Apr 18, 2013, 8:16 PM

I was in the textile business for 30 years and had a WWII veteran who worked for me. We had some German machinery in our plant and anytime the German company came to see how the equipment was doing this man would go to the other end of the plant. I asked him why. He said that the Germans had tried to kill him for the four years he was in France and he did not want to be around them. Puts a different perspective on things.

I do not understand his feelings.

Not the same Germans. Should we also hate and distrust Native Americans, French,English,Japanese , Italians, Mexicans,Russians and any other nationality or indigenous peoples that this country has ever done battle with ? Wartime and peacetime are night and day ...live and let live I say.

Don't be so judgemental unless ...............

Apr 18, 2013, 9:44 PM

you've walked in his shoes. My father was a WWII vet who served in Germany and it was a horrific experience.

We all can aspire to be perfect like you portray yourself.

Doesn't sound judgmental to me

Apr 18, 2013, 10:22 PM

He just said he didn't understand his feelings and explained why.

I don't really understand these feelings either. Disliking someone for hate crimes that they had nothing to do with is at the heart of racism as well. You basically take any negativity from one or a few individuals and stereotype them to the entire race except in this instance, the guy is doing it with ethnicity. You say you understand his feelings and we don't cuz we haven't walked in his shoes? A lot of us have been on the receiving end of hate simply b/c of the color of our skin. Is that fair?

The only one being judgmental here is you by calling the above poster "perfect" in a sarcastic tone.

I agree with turf2, I completely understand the man having

strong feelings and if you had been in his shoes, you may weel have them too (I' certainly NOT going to judge him for his feelings!). Tall Tiger, the man NEVER displayed any type of hate towards the people, he just excercised his RIGHT to not partake in their company!! That is what is wrong with this country today! People who ezercise their right in a peaceful respectful manner get labeled as intolerant or "haters" get over yourself!!

Using the exact meaning of "understand", I can agree that neither you nor I understand his feelings. However, you should be able to understand where he's coming from. Your list of countries/peoples with which we've fought and comparing them to his situation is not fair. He had thousands of Vietnamese men shooting at him and killing his brothers. To not accept that the scarring of such a situation could legitimately leave a person thinking the way he thinks is shortsighted and immature in my opinion.
