You can still kill the same amount of people with other weapons.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Sigh... banning AR's wouldn't do anything.

Feb 15, 2018, 12:22 PM

something must be done. how are you mentally ill and legally able to purchase? how does a someone in vegas obtain 55 weapons in a yr undetected? this will only be over when its bites people personally in the a$$ when their child is mowed down at a concert or trying to learn algebra. this is no longer a republican or democrat issue - its an issue for americans. a child should not have to believe this is the world they live in. half of my family is military and for some crazy reason, we all believe this same sentiment. its a cop out to only say "hey, lets only attack mental illness" - i own handgun, hunting knives, and 2 shotguns. there is no need for any rapid fire weapons for any of us unless we are stationed on a base representing the usa.

Re: Sigh... banning AR's wouldn't do anything.

Feb 15, 2018, 12:30 PM

There are laws in place that prevent mentally ill people (and all sorts of criminals) from being able to purchase guns. We are not fully enforcing those laws. The reason we are not fully enforcing those laws is because people are wasting their time arguing to ban certain types of guns and there is no urgency to enforce our laws. If everyone was outraged about the failure of the system we have in place to be actually executed the way it's supposed to be, then something meaningful might be done. But people skip over that and go after a certain type of gun because it is used by the military.

Politicians know what gets more attention. "Focus on a scary looking gun. That will steal the show. Ignore all the complicated stuff about enforcing existing laws. That won't get anyone all jazzed up."

The Vegas shooter should not have been allowed to buy guns. Someone screwed up, he was not on the ban list, and he was able to but it.

And I do not like the idea of the government having a monopoly of the means to commit violence. The 2nd amendment was created as a deterrent for unchecked power of the government to force its will on citizens and convert them into subjects.

Furthermore, handguns are just as capable of killing multiple people in a mass shooting. Don't fall for the bells and whistles.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Sigh... banning AR's wouldn't do anything.

Feb 15, 2018, 12:35 PM

then why not give new gun laws a try? no harm in that. i will bet there will be less mass shootings with a handgun. thats not bells and whistles - that will be a fact.

true - but those rapid fire weapons should not be available in the first place. i can hit a dear with a bow or shotgun. i can dove hunt without a machine gun. i have run someone off my neighbors property with my shotgun. one pump and he put his hands up while my neighbor had a baseball bat and stood over him until cops came. mental illness is an issue, no doubt. but as a father, i cannot stand for this any longer. sadly, no one talks about vegas, sandy hook, etc. or kentucky a few days back. and florida will disappear from the nations radar when one of the kardashians takes

Maybe I should form an opinion about something you find important, label it unnecessary and ask our government to cause you to do something you don't want to do because it has a small chance to save a few lives.

It's unnecessary to drive over 35 mph. Just leave earlier. Anyone who speeds should have their cars impounded. It's too important.

Uh, you don't blame the car, you take the car away from the drunk.

We need to put more money in mental health treatment and need to create a process for having hearings for people with violent tendencies. We shouldn't allow a simple psychologist's note to be ground to take a gun away, but we should have a far easier process to adjudicate such matters.

A kid who rips toilets out of the floor at his school and displays violent tendencies should probably have a hearing to ban him from having weapons.

People are wrong that the law simply wasn't followed here. There is no law that simply displaying violent tendencies gets you a hearing.

by law enforcement are actually banned in warfare. (hollow-points)

And you can kill a lot of people with a handgun, arguably more. Kids are not usually wearing flak vests.

And stop trusting the government with all the best stuff. The whole purpose of the 2nd amendment was to hedge against the govt running amok.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It's an arbitrary distinction. Many handgun rounds used

Feb 15, 2018, 2:29 PM

It's not arbitrary. Some guns are used for hunting. Some are used for personal protection on your body. Some are used for killing people.

Semi automatics should be banned. Gun nuts can play semantics all they want. But assault weapons as defined by law should be illegal. We can work through the legislative process to figure out exactly which ones. And it's only one step toward a solution.

I'm not sure you realize what you are saying.

The "military" distinction is arbitrary because there are weapons that are just as deadly which are not for military use. In fact, the point I tried to make to you is that some weapons, that are not considered "military" are so deadly that they are banned for military use.

You are not well-versed enough in this particular topic to hang. You need to recognize that and come back when you know more.
