The only reason Clemson has been in a single game this year is because of this defense
Goodwin has stepped into a role occupied by a defensive legend. Not easy yet he has done enough to have Tigers in a much better situation than the offense.
If you have any clue about football then you know the offense has been the problem all season. Kicking game as well but mostly offense, turnovers!
I’m shocked at those who still seem to think Goodwin is in any way an issue for the Tigers. Put in bad spots time after time after time.
Today the defense was outstanding. Holding to FG’s and then shutting them down in 4th quarter

Today pretty much showed me what I needed to see to put 100% belief into him. He adapted and figured out how to correct mistakes from last year and made adjustments in game as needed. Very impressed with Wes this year so far.

I was really impressed with how Wes made the adjustments to stop #7 after the first quarter. He was getting loose every time they'd run the ball out on the edge, but that came to a stop and he finished with only 87 yards. He had 76 at the end of the 1st.
The D really played great today, with fire and intensity. I was happy to see that again, and I hope it carries on thru the end of the season.

I think Defense has been good all year. You can’t blame them for getting gassed when Offense is going 3 and out keeping them on the field 45 minutes of game play

That's a fair assessment. Last year he had a few freshmen like games play calling wise(ND being one of them) you can see the growth this year and confidence he has gained, defense has kept every game winnable.

Offense fumbles. Offense bad snap recovered. 3 & out
Defense holds twice 3 & out and once allowing a QB escape for 1 first down
That’s stellar defense and bad offense.
Anyone wanting Goodwin gone should have long ago asked for Riley resignation. But that’s not fair either because it’s mental/ fundamental errors hurting the team. But the defense, they’ve been good enough and IMO it’s been an excellent effort on part of the players and coaching staff. Ready at any moment to get in there again and do their best to help the team win
Kiddos Coach Goodwin. Give that man a raise.

He is a bit less aggressive than BV was… but they also seem to give up less big plays because of it.
I think he may start upping the pressure after seeing how good the secondary played today!!

I owe Wes an apology. I talked junk about him early because the D looked soft. Arm tackles, missing tackles etc... and I said he couldn't coach how to tackle. I take it back. He's done a great job this year and the game seems to be slowing down for him. He's called great games and looks to be a diamond in the rough.
Lost my voice from yelling at the game today cheering on these Tigers. Go Tigers!

I’m a firm believer in Coach Ford’s rule: “When we hit you, you stay hit.” His “Orange Crush” defense used to take roll call as they got up off the ballcarrier. (Their idea, not his.) That’s taking pride in what you do. And I’m proud of what the defense did yesterday: they held off Notre Dame when the offense hit another scoring drought. The D won the game for us. But Goodwin still needs to make ‘em cut out the arm tackling and missed tackles. Teams that win consistently emphasize *finishing.*

before Brent Venables would snap him up. He is one guy who Brent really wanted to take with him to Oklahoma. So, think about that a little, whenever you forget just how good a job Wes has done with the situations our lack of offense has put his guys in this year.

As I’ve said before I wouldn’t be mad if he stays or mad if he were replaced by a guy like Jim Leonhard. But it has to be a homerun hire. I still believe he is going to be a liability as LB coach before long.

TD Count - the Clemson D has given up 10 TDs in 9 games in regulation time that were not related to an offensive turnover.
I know they all count (turnover related and OT), but allowing a 2 yard TD because a fumble or INT set the opponent offense isn't all their fault either.
The Tigers have given up 191 points total.
73 points allowed off turnovers
18 points allowed in both OTs
91 points total
191 - 91 = 100 ÷ 9 = 11.1 points per game and that my friends would be #3 in Div 1 Power 5 ratings.
