If you were advising Cade what would you tell him......

Oct 29, 2023, 11:28 PM

I almost said if you were his parents what would you tell him but decided that was too personal so pulled it back and you're advising him. I assume he's on track to graduate next year, most do in 3 years now. Would you tell him to:

Stick around, trust Dabo and Riley will get the offensive ship upright next year

Transfer to another school now and start over with 2 years eligibility left

Follow DJ and get your degree and take the 4th year somewhere else

Study hard, football isn't in your future

OR?????

I would tell him to stop putting the ball on the ground, and to stop trying to throw the ball in the same type of close windows that Trevor could do bc he isn't and will never be in the same circle that Trevor Lawrence was in with his talent!!!

Sort of beating around the bush, I would wait till this weekend to see how the Notre Dame game goes but it goes the way I am thinking it will go, finish out the season and then enter the portal.

I would tell him to learn how to be situationally aware. That is a problem that is keeping us from having a chance to win in three different games.
Understand Down/Distance and where you are in the game relative to the clock and the scoreboard. Dancing around for 15 seconds to throw a pass five yards behind the line of scrimmage not anywhere near the sideline to Mafah is ok on first and ten from the 35 in the middle of the first quarter with scores tied 0-0, not at the end of the game with clock winding down behind by a touchdown.

The following on staff have either coached QBs or been a QB one at a Big Time College Program: Riley, Morris, Stoudt, Boyd and Zow. If they can’t help him with that then he should look elsewhere because he will never be very good. Most kids learn those basics in Higjh School. Ty Olenchuk has better situational awareness as a QB than Cade does right now and he is on the baseball team.i know Cade won a bunch of games at one of the best programs at the highest level of HS football. Maybe they blew every one out and these nuances of the position did not matter and were not drilled.

Hang in there. Help is on the way in the form of new receivers next year, and hopefully a new receivers coach and offensive line coach.

To run the play that is called .. and keep your head on a swivel when passing.

Take the NIL and pay the O-line to block better.

Stay. Spend time learning the OL calls and protection schemes. If you know where the pressure is, you know where the weakness is. The majority of college defenses show pressure to soon and they don't get out of it before the snap if you don't give them time.

The problem is not Cade - It is the very vanilla and limited playbook he has been given - Let's expand it this week! Where are the slant patterns? Where are the 20 yard down field sideline pass plays? Where are the hitch and go pass plays for long yardage? Cade is fully capable of making all of these passes!!!!

Take a look on youtube at Cade Klubnik high school highlights during the championship games. His receivers don’t drop passes, his offensive line protects him, Cade is slimmer and runs a lot. More time to throw the ball. So our coaches are not as good as his high school coaches. Watch the videos and you decide.
