If USF fires J Scott how fast should Dabo pick up the phone

to get him back at Clemson to get our WRs back up to par. I'm surprised no one has been putting more heat on Grisham today after that terrible WR performance last night. No more excuses about injuries and DJ errant throws (he threw a lot of nice balls last night). His guys just aren't getting it done and Grisham has to take responsibility. The only bright spot (Antonio) was a guy that he didn't even offer until late in the recruiting process. Williams had wanted to be a Tiger most of his life because his Momma went there and he grew up in the upstate while in middle school. Randall was coming to Clemson no matter the coach either. He had absolutely nothing to do with two guys that look like they can actually play. Why is the Freshman Williams having to teach the veteran Senior Spector release moves and influence. Isn't that Grisham's job?

Spector has missed time w injuries, covid and early on wasn't getting much pt. As far as number of plays he may be one of the lease experienced seniors.

Jeff Scott got a contract extension this year. They like Jeff's recruiting at USF and are giving him time to build the program.

Scott is by far Dabo's biggest coaching loss and his versatility hasn't been matched by his replacement.

As much as I admire Jeff Scott - and I really do...

You're saying Scott is Swinney's biggest coaching loss? Have you already forgotten Brent Venables? That guy's in a class by himself.
That said, I'd love to see Scott come back to Clemson as WR coach and co-coordinator.

BV is the BEST coach that Dabo has lost, but right now......

Jeff Scott leaving has had the biggest impact (in a negative way) so far from a WR performance, to playcalling input/co-coordinator, to recruiting.
if our Defense is atrocious in 2-3 years then I'll revise the biggest coaching loss pecking order.

Err, uh, playcalling sucked ### when he was co-coordinator. Talent consistently bailed dumb and dumber out. However, last night's game with DJ at the helm wasn't called well either for a good portion. A guy struggling to make decisions quickly and get rid of the ####### ball should have more check-down options.

Play calling sucked? Perhaps you didn't see where it was Jeff Scott (after listening to a player's suggestion and rationale) who insisted on running "Orange Crush" against 'Bama in the 2018 championship game. That right there showed me he had the cahones to be a play-caller.

And what is the basis for that comment?

In Grisham's first year we have the most productive receiving season in school history. Yes, we had some focus issues last year all things considered, but we got better at WR even when having only two scholarship WRs at the end of the year.
We played one game so far. If the drops continue then it's time to start making such ridiculous claims. But let's see how things pan out at QB and WR before jumping off the ledge.

Instantly. He was the better of the Scott / Elliot combo.

I am not overly impressed with either.foe once, we need to rip a page out of Kirby's playbook and hire a NFL coordinator.

Nothing pays like losing as a Football HC

The buyouts are lucrative and life changing. But Dabo could choose to use Scott as a consultant and recruiter (not WR coach.)

IF all of the pieces were to fall in place, it would be interesting to see either Scott as an offensive analyst/recruiter with Richardson moving into a Co-OC role or Scott and Streeter as co-OCs. Just a pipe dream.
I learned a long time ago that true players don't usually make awesome coaches. There are tons of exceptions, but think about it.
Dabo, Saban, Jeff Scott, Venables. None of them were awesome players and definitely not all-pros in the NFL.
Then take Grisham and Spiller. Love both of them, but they are probably the most scrutinized coaches on staff. Ironically, they both were great in college and had NFL stints.
I'm sure there's some psychological explanation that is over my head.
Can you imagine Michael Jordan as a head coach? No way. I'm not sold yet on Deion Sanders. He may be an exception, but is he an awesome coach or just knows how to relate to the kids and sell his program.
Just interesting to me.
