NC St 3-3-5 defense

There defense can be tricky im sure they will blitz Cade a lot. I expect we will try to get Mafah going in this game. I could see Mafah rushing for 150yds in this game. Also could see them attack the edges a lot in this game. But I would like to see Turner run a jet sweep 3-4 times in this game. Of course take an occasional deep shot. Moore could do some damage on the edges. Offensive line hold up we win 45-21.

Briningstool should be wide open in the flat all afternoon.

My bet is Brinny will have a couple of big plays running seam routes.

Correct. The 335 is notoriously vulnerable to the TE release for a quick 4 to 5 or running open in the flat. I suspect our TEs will see a lot of action Saturday.

I tried to give some thoughts on the Xs and Os,

Instead of retyping, I thought sharing would be easier. I think there are some opportunities to exploit them but we also need CK2 to be ready between the ears.

I got a feeling our offensive line will make that plan blow up in their faces

Like most schemes, it can be structurally beneficial and it can also be exploited. In this case, I just don't think a 3-3-5 with a 4i alignment is going to do well against our OL. The weaknesses of that front plays into our strengths. It will be interesting to see how early in the game we run GT counter and a jet sweep. I would say that it will be tested early, and if we are successful it will force NCSU to adapt. Then they will be on their heels.

UT must have seen something on film with respect to their hybrid LBs losing RBs/TEs with action because they continuously went back to variations on that theme. For example, you fake a handoff to the RB with a TE pulling to block and after the play fake the TE slips out into the flat. The hybrid LBs kept crashing and losing the TE on the play fake side, the QB would dump it off for an easy 5-15 yards a pop. Or they would slip the RB out in a similar way. It will be interesting to see if they have fixed that coverage issue. It is something that I appreciated from Heupel in that game, he saw an issue and just kept going back to it until they stopped it... they didn't stop it.

Also Gibson was raised under Jeff Castills 335 D from WVU/Rich Rodriguez days. Its really all he knows.

I absolutely despise a three-man front when we run it, so I am delighted that NC State is going to run it. I guess there is some justification but I always want to have two tackles and two defensive ends to stop runs in the A and B gap and ends that can turn the play inside and keep the play from getting to their outside.

I like it as something to have on video to force teams to prepare for or as a scheme to throw in to help keep an offense on their toes. But I do not like seeing it more than 10% of the time.

One key is your LB have to be able to shed blocks quickly. If the OL or TE get to that level and they blow up or lock up a LB there will be all kinds of room to run, and a RB like Mafah will have momentum.

Best example is UGA vs TCU in the NC game a couple years ago.

if you run hurry up, it dumbs the defense down a good bit.***
