I just don't see it with our BBall team.

Yeah - they won last night, but it was against BC, who if I'm not mistaken has not won a single ACC game. And they struggled until BC's top players sat with foul trouble.
I see CLEMSON BBall as a pretty solid NIT team, but I would not expect this team to go very far in the NCAAT. They rely too much on the three, have no penetrating PG, and struggle with turnovers. Their best attribute might be their free-throwing, and I never thought I'd say that in my lifetime. Kudos to BB or whomever that made this team actually able to make a free throw.
Nope - I just don't see it. If we are that good, then I just keep missing it. I try to see it, but then I see too many issues.
That said - it's definitely nice to watch a CLEMSON BBall team that can compete better than in previous years. It's been a long drought IMO.

We have actually been extremely competitive under Brownell.
Feb 18, 2016, 8:46 AM

Games where we weren't in it until the end are rare under Brownell. The difference this year is that we have more offensive firepower to go along with the tough defense. That offensive taken will only increase next year with the transfers who will be eligible.

that this is the first yer that BB has ever had his previous year's leading scorer returning to lead the team again. And if JB doesn't have an idiot moment, he'll be back next year as well.
Brownell simply doesn't get the credit he deserves for climbing the mountain put in front of him.
Whether we make the Dance this year or not, they've achieved great things,
and will only be better next year.

Do you think it was BB's, or the AD's, plan to not be dancing at all in year 5 or 6? H3ll no.
I hope we can get in this year... we've had a good run... bur our RPI is 90... NINETY.... 9 - 0
hopefully BB finds a way to get us in... and starts winning non-conference games

but let's don't sugarcoat where we are... If he would have said, "well.. in year 6 we hope to be on the bubble after rebuilding", he never would have been hired.
I like him a lot... but he needs to win. We are 9-5 in ACC play (which is AWESOME), so there is ZERO excuse for an RPI at 90 and being on the outside of the bubble at this point.

don't turn this into one of your rants about people not liking BB. I like BB. I think he's a good coach.
I also think he has underachieved in regards to postseason play. I think he has benefited from an unbalanced schedule. Even with that, we haven't made the dance.
The run this year of beating ranked teams was great.... but we are still quite a ways out, looking in.

There are other measurements besides RPI. Sagarin has then at 51. I agree that they need to move up. I don't see them getting in with more than 1 loss in the regular season. That RPI is driven by early season losses, which get discounted IF a team gets hot late in the year.

the worst rpi ever to make the dance was ~64th; at one time ~97+% ended ~top 50 rpi[at large].

I'm sure all unc fans were saying they weren't an NCAA team after they beat BC by only 3.
BC played one of their better games last night. They were actually making shots. Their center hit his first 3 of the season last night. Also, they had a guy hit 2 3s that only had 3 prior to this game.

This is a good basketball team for CLEMSON,
Feb 18, 2016, 9:13 AM
|

given our basketball history. In the last FORTY-FIVE YEARS, we have had a winning record in conference 12 times; it's almost a lock this year. If we make the dance, it's a great year, again given our history. The problem is, our history is pretty bad overall, and we need to get to a point where we have a good basketball program objectively, compared to everybody else. We have to stop using our own sorry history as a basis for how good we are in any particular year; that would be setting the bar way too low and guaranteeing underachievemnt. I think we're making slow progress under Brownell, but still have a ways to go. The good thing is, in basketball, if you have a good coach and a solid group of role players, it only takes one or two big-time players to get you over that hump. Here's to hoping Brownell can pull that off.

and they face both teams again ... but they can't beat them a second time playing "like that" ?
NC State has been terrible throughout the season ... much worse than Clemson and yet because of two double digit Tiger victories in a row, you already "fully expect" a loss in Raleigh ?
Wow.
Here's what fully expect ... Clemson will go 4-0 to close out the regular season and will win at least two tournament games on their way to an NCAA bid.

Our PG's have done a good job scoring off drives and drawing fouls in certain games. Our defense should get some credit for the opponents leading scorers having off nights as well. We keep winning even when we struggle in some areas. Does that not speak volumes?

Would I love us to be good in all sports? Obviously yes. But it's nearly impossible to achieve that. If we have a good year every now and then, great, it will be nice surprise. But we do not put a serious emphasis on basketball, and the result is a mediocre team.
