I’m a big opponent of preseason rankings. In my opinion there’s no bigger tool for team and conference propaganda than preseason rankings and I’d love to see them go away.

It’s so annoying later in the season to hear about a team’s “top ten win” or “good loss against a ranked opponent “ when the season shows that the opponent wasn’t actually that caliber. Anyone else?

I’m trying to keep my mind busy ignoring what I’ve seen on the field from our Tigers and believing the coaches and HLRT that we’re an elite team this year and just haven’t seen it yet.

agree no one should be ranked till OCT so you can see what people really have skill wise

That can all go away too: Heisman faves, all-league teams, predictions of this and that, playoff likelys, etc. Your post is "Idealic". Problem being that all the talking heads and hype people all make money at their jobs, to entertain, would have to go, and that ain't happen'n. On the rankings, if the official ranking (whatever or whoever this is) goes away, someone else will just jump in and take advantage and do one on their show, and try to win more audience. It's about winning audience numbers.

I’m not saying take away the speculation, I’m just saying don’t make it official.

Case in point, every single professional league. The NFL still maintains a huge sports entertainment industry outside of and leading up to the season bits is pure speculation.
