then leaving it unattended and coming back later. Others should be able to move it out of the way right?

Like general space in the grass for instance. Near numbered parking spots but doesn’t belong to anyone specific. If your numbered spot doesn’t have enough room right behind it

I'm not aware of any general space not allocated to (a) parking, (b) tailgating in front of/behind your parking spot, or (c) driving between spots.

I suppose you could put a tent in the woods between lots.

If I got to my spot and a random tent was in the way and didn't belong to someone who was allocated a space in the lot, I'd move it immediately.

Effort much appreciated.

Not my question though (I’m sure it’s my fault)

I WILL move somebody’s tent if it’s unattended in the area I want to use, even if it’s not in my spot. I was trying to find out if there is a written rule about unattended tents.

Of course the unwritten rule is areas in front or behind parking spots are the property of the one who payed for the spot. It would be totally wrong and 100% redneck to walk over to a spot next to a parking spot and set up a tailgate. There are some open areas that are free game.

Why would you want to set-up a tent in an area where others might be inconvenienced by having to move it out of their way?

If you have to ask, the answer is generally no.

There are thousands of tailgate tents on campus that are not confined to the space provided by the parking spot. Many of them are set up in places you could call first come first serve. Some ######## have been known to put up a tent at the crack of dawn to claim a spot, then go home and come back later. I think that’s bs and if somebody’s empty tent is left somewhere in my way I plan to move it. I was trying to find a written rule because I think at one time there was a rule in the parking guidelines

There are a lot of areas that are not in or adjacent to an assigned parking spot. We often see many set up at various places on campus that look to be good tailgating areas. I think there are many that would move the tent if it was not occupied or attended.
