I really hope college football moves to something like what the UCLA dude proposed below. What's happening now is madness. On multiple levels.
I personally despise the SEC. Living for a decade in the ATL is enough to put any Clemson man off the SEC forever. I don't envy them or want to be them. Whatever we do I hope we don't go chasing money in conferences I could not care less about. Yes, the 'She has screwed us forever, but at least most of the schools have a morsel of academic integrity and are something more than giant state flagship schools. I enjoy the character of Clemson, Dook, Wake, UVA, BC, even Syracuse and Pitt. I don't love adding the NoCal schools or SMU, but they each have character too.
I kind of hope FSU loses in their efforts, because I really don't want us to follow them.
Yes, I know I am in the minority.
Now get off my lawn.

3rd tier conference where we continue to play local and traditional rivals instead of moving 'up' to the SEC or B1G.

Getting tickets for $40 over joining the SEC and just overcommercializing and over-footballing whatever is left of little old CU and paying $200 for tickets to mediocre games and paying coaches $15M in the hopes of winning a natty once a decade.

phuckk err’body not named the SEC in the buttewhole. Now they’re brokeass and married to the SEC locked in the CFP mansion.
I liked the ACC, too, but the wait and see strategy came and went. College football is gonna be ugly while all of this shakes out. Best thing we got is our brand, so we keep doing that and winning football games.

SEC and B10 schools have signed contracts with ESPN - so they ain't gonna go for this 64-team idea...at least not anytime soon.

and right now, no southern schools where football is king. They need us, FSU, Miami, and whatever other dregs they want to put a foothold down South imo.

I think you are right. We've all read about this scenario, but it does make sense that Fox wants to leap E$PN by being able to broadcast conference games from noon to 10:00, each game as relevant on one coast as the other. They need a few ACC teams to make that happen. I would love to see that, just to put a gig in the $ECE$PN a holes.

a long-gone relic of the past.
The quarter-century of the 2000's has not been kind to that section of the country north of Tennessee. Two National Championships since 2000, both Ohio St.

woof woof woof in Augusta bars.
So, I hate most SEC schools but it would be exciting as hale to join that conference.
Exciting games most weeks but thinking we'd see more 9-3-, 8-4s.

One centralized authority could leverage much bigger TV deals than what the conferences are doing now.
The issue is the networks already own the conferences. No chance this happens without a lot of litigation to get out of the existing TV deals.
Also needs to be an NCAAPA and a collective bargaining agreement that can mitigate challenges and all the negativity around the NIL.
I do think there needs to be relegation. Bottom 8 drop to G5, top 8 G5 teams get promoted, or whatever.
